We stayed here on a Saturday night after spending the afternoon at Ostrava's zoo and before heading out the next day to the Beskydy Mountains. The hotel appears to be very new - everything was spotless and fresh. The staff were very friendly. We went downtown for dinner, but Ostrava's nightlife isn't particularly kid-friendly - the downtown is all but dead after 12pm when the shops close, except for the "famous" Stodolni street, which is nothing but bar after bar after bar (and one good restaurant that we know from Prague, Potrefena Husa). Fortunately the hotel has a 4 lane bowling alley, so once we got back, we bowled a couple of games before heading up to the room, where we watched a movie and then went to bed. We left the window open to get some fresh air in the room and were invaded by mosquitoes - so badly we had to close the window and turn on the air conditioning instead. The pillows were too flat for my taste, but otherwise the bed was large and fairly comfortable.||||On Sunday morning, there was no breakfast buffet, as we were the ONLY people staying in the hotel, but instead they cooked us breakfast to order - which was nice.||||The Jan Maria is a good hotel in a bad city. It can't help it. i assume they get most of their business during the week from business travelers, because there's not much in Ostrava to draw weekend tourists, unfortunately (unless you're crazy about baby elephants, which was our reason for...
Read morePerfect place outside the centre of Ostrava for an overnight stay on a business trip. Travelling by car, there was a car park located in front of the hotel and without charge. The Hotel itself along with the room were very nice and clean. It has a good little restaurant next door but within the same building, perfect for dinner. Bedding and WIFI was great. Bathroom, nicely tiled and appealing. If anything, the rooms were a little warm but it should be noted that I did not make an attempt to adjust this. And to cap off the stay, Breakfast was superb. Having stayed at other establishments in Ostrava, I can safely say, for my value of my corporate allowance, I will definitely...
Read moreI knew Ostrava was an industrial city but chose to use it as a base for visiting the area. The hotel is in a quiet ,easily accessible district. It is in a well converted industrial building, somewhat stark at first impression , but beautiful inside. The rooms are equipped to a high standard, with small balconies ,mine opened onto the tennis court, there is plenty of storage , safe, TV and free internet . I used the excellent restaurant in the evenings ,and there was a good choice of hot and cold items at breakfast. All the staff were very friendly , professional, and spoke good english. Very good value and I would certainly stay...
