Hotel - Colonies — Hotel in okres Rakovník

My husband, daughter and I have recently returned from staying four nights at the Kolonie as we were in the Czech Republic to watch the other daughter play hockey in the Under 18 European Championships in nearby Rakovnik. The rooms were very comfortable with nice views over th arable crops and onto the forests beyond. The food was straight forward but very tasty. The owner did an excellent job of assisting us with our needs and suggesting places to visit and was a font of knowledge about the local area. In between matches we visited some of the local castles and also did some of the well sign posted walks through the woods. It looks an excellent area for cycling as well and there was an extensive amount of cycles routes available for both road and off-road. Some friends and I were cycle touring across Europe and we hunted for a place to rest our heads along our journey. The area is rather limited with regards accommodation options, which left us being advices to try Hotel Kolonie. We arrived to a warm welcome with our chatty host who spoke excellent English (unfortunately we're not great with our Czech!). The room was clean, very comfortable. Granted it's nothing fancy, but it's the ideal place for what we needed. There's a nice few sofas and a bar tended by the owner who advised us on some lovely Czech wines. The food was rather basic, but more than filling and tasty after a long day's cycle. The prices are VERY agreeable too! All in all, id say that if you're in the area - this place is worth a try. We stayed 2 nights and the place is like heaven. Very quiet and nice. Good places for walking and swimming not too far away. Rooms were nice and clean. Bathroom looks really nice. 1h for breakfast was enough and it was also good. Dinner was awesome and not pricy at all. Host is very friendly and speaks good English.
