Hotel Sýkora — Hotel in okres Rakovník

We wanted a small out of the way location to travel between Pilsen and Prague. This location is all we needed from a hotel to accommodate our day trips. Located only about an 1.5 hours from the two locations listed we could not wait to check in. Check in is done at the restaurant located on the ground floor. The hotel itself is very well put together and had the amenities to keep two kids entertained between our day trips. The history of the hotel is well displayed and adds to its very local humble atmosphere. The hotel staff were in my opinion absolutely wonderful, they did anything any everything to ensure that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. It had a “right at home” feel with the restaurant being the hub of the hotel. The kitchen staff in particular are incredible. The food was not only delicious but very well put together. Our first night in the hotel the restaurant was very busy, but that had not effect on the staff. The food was brought out quickly. This did not negatively influence the flavor or appearance. With a quick visit to the local Town information center, three minutes away. The very friendly staff will help point you in the direction of all the available activities to do and see within the town and within the castle. To our surprise we found that right next door the castle Hrad Krivoklat has many things to see and do. If you drive to the hotel and want to leave your car in the hotel parking, you will find the local bus stop is right across the street. The best way to travel to Prague from this location would be the train station ten minutes up the road. Being located on the main street of town so the main thoroughfare is busy but not unbearable. Worth note; My only notice was the hotel parking in back along the stream had at times a sulfuric smell, now it was not over baring but notable. The hotel has nothing to do with this but unfortunately the smell was there. With that being said, from our room that overlooked the stream and hills we did not have the smell in our room, restaurant, or hotel in general. The hotel is under going a huge renovation. When the renovations are done the hotel will be very nice. The rooms are finished and they are nicely done. We stayed in a triple and it had plenty of space. Breakfast was very good with pasteries. Fresh fruit. Meat plates and fresh vegetables. The owner was very nice and helpful. He speaks a little English and was very patient. My only recommendation is if you want a quiet sleep ask for rooms in the back. Nejdříve to vypadalo jen na 1 hvězdu, ale nakonec se vše v dobré obrátilo. Doctěte prosím až do konce... Číšník prostě neměl svůj den. Drobné jazykové problémy při popisu lístku bych vzhledem k jeho mateřskému slovenskému jazyku klidně přehlédl. Následující omyl, kdy místo jasně požadované neperlivé vody přinesl během minuty vodu jemně perlivou s tím, že se omlouvá že zapomněl jakou jsme objednali, mě už trošku rozhodil, ale vzhledem k tomu, že se slušně omluvil a obratem donesl tu správnou, objednali jsme si i něco dobrého k večeři. Po 30 minutách a vzhledem k tomu že jsme si objednali hotovky jsem se už začal rozhlížet, co se děje. Po několika minutách přišel opět onen číšník a vyrazil mi dech otázkou, co bysme si chtěli objednat k jídlu a že si teď vlastně není jistý, jestli jsme si už náhodou neobjednávali! Po pár vteřinách jsem se zmohl na odpověď, že přímo u něj jsme si už dávno objednali a pořád čekáme, načež následovala další omluva a že pokud ještě chvíli počkáme, zajde naší objednávku předat do kuchyně. Popravdě jsme se chtěli okamžitě zvednout, ale vzhledem k pozdní hodině jsme mu dali ještě jednu šanci. Můžu říct, že od té doby se vše v dobré obrátilo a vůbec jsme tohoto rozhodnutí nelitovali. Během minutky přišel opět s velkou omluvou a navíc se dvěma dezerty na účet podniku. Mimochodem moc dobrými. Za dalších asi deset minut přišel už dlouho očekávaný hlavní chod. A bylo to něco. Jak kachnička s křupavou kůžičkou a výborným zelím, tak gulášek s výborným masíčkem a knedlíkem stáli opravdu za to čekání. Ještě dlouho po jídle jsme se olizovali až za ušima. Po jídle přišel opět onen číšník a znovu se moc omlouval a dokonce i poděkoval za odpuštění, za což si nakonec vysloužil i nějaké to dýško. Věřím že to byl jen nepovedený den a restauraci tedy...
