The hotel looked great in the pictures, modern architecture and all, and boasted a nice spa area complete with sauna. Those were the two things that made me select the Lesni Hotel, along with some enthusiastic reviews I found on the booking site.||||Today I wonder who wrote those ...||||The first impression was on the stairs (!) from the parking to the entrance (you don't want stairs when you arrive with luggage) (to be fair: there was a ramp but the detour was too great): They were covered with snow, many people had walked on them but nobody had bothered to clear the snow - I hope nobody fell! ||||Then, at reception, big disappointment: The sauna and spa are fully booked 'by guests', I should have booked two days earlier to use them. That's not what you want to hear when you arrive after a long cold working day.||||And it seems unthinkable that a hotel feature that appears in the list of facilities requires a separate advance booking - have you ever thought to make a reservation for the pool or the beach in a vacation hotel? ||||I told the receptionist that I am also " a guest", that I had selected the hotel just for the spa and that I consider it paid with the hotel room charges, but to no avail - no spa that night.||||The (nice) flat screen TV - the only alternative for entertainment - showed lots of local channels (many of them appeared several times), but no CNN, no international channels. In a hotel that claims 4 start (or even 4 1/2), you would expect at least some international stations, a well sorted channel list, and a listing handily available for direct access. So, no TV that night.||||WiFi was available and free, but the signal was so weak that my iPhone lost connection often. I complained and was given a separate access point with instructions to connect it to the wired network in my room. The second one of those then actually worked, strong signal, but slow connection speed. I should have heeded the reviews that mention that the hotel 'struggles' with WiFi.||||My room was large enough, but the bathroom was super-sized, it must be more than 12m². It has nice tiles and modern equipment, but things are lined up in a totally uninspired way. You sit and look at all the empty real estate around you, imagining how much better all that space could have been used. ||||The food in the restaurant was okay (but not great), the service was friendly, but there as well as in most other areas the lighting set the mood, and unfortunately not in a good way: The designer seems to like indirect lighting in greenish hues of energy saving bulbs or cold-white LEDs. No halogen spots, no 'light islands' that create a cozy mood, in the public areas and in the room. And the energy saving theme goes so far that the aisles light up only when you make the first steps into a pitch-black corridor. ||||Self-service breakfast the next morning was the final blow: The coffee jug contained just about a half cup of overheated coffee, I asked for more but no fresh coffee became available while I was there. The breakfast items were rather dull, no sign of four stars: Bread and bakery were uninspired, to say the least, no fresh fruit (pineapple, orange, melon) cut-up, just some apples and bananas, no freshly made omelettes or fried eggs, not to speak of fancier things you come to expect at good hotel breakfast buffets.||||I ran quickly, and will never return. ||||Wait - at the stairs I was wise enough to slow down: I had told reception about it the evening before, but last night's snow was still there, untouched with the exception of hundreds of footsteps of guests...
Read moreThe hotel has a modern, minimalist design and is impeccably clean. It was built about 4 years ago but looks as if it was finished only a week ago. We stayed twice; room 18 is a corner room and is huge, but room 19 we had on the second stay was also very spacious.||The wellness area is beautiful, with a jacuzzi, with two saunas and a steam bath and resting areas. The use of wellness is included in the accommodation price except the (optional) bathrobes and you have to buy drinks, which was a bit of a surprise.||The buffet breakfast is not lavish but has the usual range of hot dishes, dry meats and chesses, cereal, fruit etc. We found it satisfactory. We only ate dinner in the restaurant once and the food was lovely but perhaps a bit pricey. Both restaurant and receptions staff were very pleasant and helpful.||Something to note if you are not travelling with a car: the hotel is located a bit out of town, amongst trees on top of a hill. It's too far to walk to town but Bus 31 goes past the hotel about two - three times an hour and takes only 6 minutes to the centre. Tickets can be bought from machines on the bus stations in the centre (but not the one opposite the hotel). For a single ride choose a the 20 min ticket (cost 12 korun) or get a 24 hour ticket for 70 korun.||If coming back to Zlin we would definitely...
Read moreI stayed here for the second time, this time in the presidential suite. The room is very spacious, has an elegant and luxurious bathroom with private sauna. I slept very well here, quilts are very nice. The area is quiet, you have to go to the city by car. Breakfast is fairly decent, but the service staff does not have the quality of a four star hotel. Unlike the girls on reception are lovely, helpful and friendly. The big problem is wifi, which has not worked anywhere except lobby, the rooms have practically without Internet, even with the router. ||Surely I will come back, but I hope that these shortcomings will be...
