**Updated score after a superb breakfast and breakfast service, shame about the rest** We were really looking forward to staying here for one night on our way to Legoland, mainly due to the stunning waterfront location. However if I could do it over again I would definitely have booked closer in town. While yes, the location is great, everything else is nothing short of dire. We were greeted by a homeless woman camping in the cramped entry way, chanting loudly at my baby who became hysterical. There were no staff inside to stop this from happening, just electric codes and we fumbled our way inside as fast as we could. We were placed on the 1st floor, which had no lift, and had to carry all our luggage and buggy up two flights of stairs and down two very long, fire door blocked corridors. My heart sank as soon as we opened the door to our 'sea view' room. It badly stank of cheap car freshener which despite leaving the door open all night never cleared. The room was chokingly hot and the furnishings/decor/building is not just tired - it's like walking into a condemned building. There are no basics, not even a TV or fridge and many of the lights and powerpoints didn't work. The bathroom is very grimy, the furniture belongs in the tip and the curtains do little to block out the light as they are too small. The only reprieve was the bedding, which was clean white cotton and feather pillows. We haven't had breakfast yet and hope that might put things up to two starts, but given the sight of the canteen here I don't hold high hopes. To anyone considering this place, please don't be wooed by the pictures of the sea, this place should not be in business and I really don't say that lightly.

Achtung! Warning! Critically poor fire safety. Do not book your next stay at this hotel. There are no personel present at the hotel. This is probably some kind of great business model for the owners, but it does not benefit you as a guest. Late at night I found the smoke detector missing. Early next morning I found the detector in a drawer and it was missing batteries. When talking with the cleaning staff, they blamed the hotel administration, wich I think is fair. When I confronted the management, who are only available by phone, they blamed the cleaning staff. I think this is unfair and told them so. Then I was blaimed myself, by the satellite managment, for not calling in the middle of the night. I told them that the fire safety at their hotel is not my responsibilty. The satellite representant on the phone politically correctly agreed with this, but still maintained that it was my responsibility to act. My responsibility as a hotel guest is firstly to pay as agreed and secondly not to behave like Keith Moon, the infamous drummer of The Who. This review is not written out of affection. It is carefully thought out. Drive past this place. You're not going to hurt anyone, because there is no one there. Who knows, if you choose another hotel, you are likely to have a smile too.

Sagen kort: Jeg booket et værelse til min to ansatte. På regningen, som iøvrigt er blevet trukket 7 dage før ankomst, står der "Værelse på 1. sal med balkon og havudsigt". Dét værelse der møder dem, er i stueplan, nede i hjørnet med udsigt til en baggård. Men det er slet ikke det værste. Værelset er simpelthen UBEBOELIGT! De fandt tomme flasker under sengen, rengøring havde ikke været forbi. Der var snavset over alt og fyldt med SKIMMELSVAMP. Det mærkes tydeligt i svælget og vejrtrækningen bliver besværet allerede med det samme. De “tjekker ind” ca. 15.30 og allerede her, er der intet personale at få fat på. Telefonsvaren er fuldstændig ubrugelig og til ingen hjælp. De kører igen og finder heldigvis et lækkert hotel et andet sted i byen. Nu begynder problemet så... Jeg ringer samme dag uden held og skriver til dem med samme, med den åbentlyse forventning om en fuld refusion af mine penge. Men jeg skal snart blive klogere. FOR DET ER FULDSTÆNDIGT UMULIGT AT FÅ EN VOKSEN I TALE I DET SVINDLER FORETAGNE!! Nej, direktøren for hotellet hedder Charles Kenneth Uhd Jensen Ginnerskov og han er også direktør i et andet firma i byen kaldet IP Nordic. Heller ikke i det firma, kan jeg få ham i tale. Jeg har ringet flere gange til Charles, uden held. Jeg har sendt ham mails ligeledes uden held. Deres økonomiansvarlig hedder Lars Plehn og ham har jeg også forsøgt at få i tale men uden held. Så alt i alt fungerer det således, at kunderne kun kan få penge retur, når ledelsen (Charles, Lars osv.) gider reagere. Og det gider de ikke, åbentbart. I min optik virker det til, at man bevidst svindler sine kunder, ved ikke at reagere trods utallige af henvendelser. Man trækker penge fra kundernes kontoer uretsmæssigt, før ankomst uden forudgående aftaler. Det lader til at man driver sine forretninger på en så usselt måde, at man jo håber på KONTANT en dag hiver dem rundt ved næsen. For det fortjener de i hvert fald. Når, men det stopper jo ikke engang her. Jeg har så også fundet ud af at Charles Kenneth Uhd Jensen Ginnerskov og hans far Thorben Uha Ginnerskov Jensen driver flere hoteller i det sønderjydske, hvilket jo er super bekymrende. De driver bla.: Hotel Østersø Hotel Sønderborg Kaserne Det gamle Rådhus i Gråsten Og muligvis også flere, hvem ved. PAS PÅ derude og hold dig LANGT væk..

Old, worn out and totally overpriced. ||I looked online for a hotel were pets are allowed and therefore set a filter 'pets allowed" on a booking side. I have just crossed 4 countries by car, travelling from Turkey to Denmark, so i have stayed in several hotels on the way. Hotel Østersøen came up in the list of results and was the cheapest one, so I booked it.|There is no reception at the hotel, so there was no one present when I checked in. The following day I was out the whole day, working on my boat. When I came back in the afternoon, I found a note from the cleaning lady to please contact the reception, which I did immediately. As mentioned before, there is no reception desk, just a contact Hotline. I called at 17:15 but they stop operating at 4 pm, so I called them first thing the following morning and was told, that pets are not allowed at the property (I tried to explain that it came up on my search even though I had set a filter). I was asked to leave immediately and still had to pay for the following night, even though I was out by 10 o'clock, because, according to the lady, they would still lose out another day.|The hotel has charged me the full amount for 8 days, refusing to refund me anything! I have contacted hotels.com and raised a claim with them; they have contacted the hotel and asked for a refund and the (One Star) hotel's respond was that a) they had to do an extensive cleaning which costs 990,- DKK and, due to this cleaning attempt were not be able to rent out the room for a couple of days (?!) and therefore had a financial loss, which coincidencely added up to the 3.285,- DKK that the hotel still owes me?||If this hotel is so concerned about their guests having allergic reactions to pets they should first of all get rid of the nasty, stained carpets which look as run down as the rest of the "furniture" in the rooms.||I booked myself into Benniksgard afterwards, a 4** hotel with an excellent service and breakfast and was charged an additional 250,- DKK for my dog for the whole duration...

If you have the opportunity to book another hotel, you should do it. It was the worst "hotel" we have ever stayed in. I don't even know where to start... |1. The smell in the hallway and in the room was horrible, really horrible! A disgusting toilet in a fast food restaurant smells better. My body turned inside out and just wanted to get out of the building. |2. The room: Dirty and dusty everywhere, small stains and hair on the sheets. The chair in the middle of the room belongs in a dump and is definitely not about "preserving" something from the 70s as the owner seems to keep claiming. |3. The toilet: Really bad, some tiles are missing, the bathtub is so yellowed that you wouldn't even put your foot in there if you were paid for it. The toilet seat is also loose. No ventilation whatsoever.||How the owner responds to other reviews says a lot about the "hotel" he doesn't seem to care what the guests think and clearly wants to drive the hotel into the grave. He joked about a guest complaining about open electricity in a light socket. He doesn't even apologize when a family posted pictures of a shower curtain with black mold, he would just wash it. You throw it away immediately and buy new ones. He writes that the hot water and the view are what they are proud of. You apologize for what the guest has experienced during their stay, don't start talking about your own pride. Crazy that such "hotels" are even allowed to exist. Or is it just Danish standards? Moldy and rotten. His claim that it is about preserving the old is not really true, if you want to preserve something, you do it in top condition. This is just worn and disgusting. Creased Stained carpet, broken...
