This is a pleasant and unique hotel in a suburb of Aalborg.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable , and have shower, TV, reliable free WiFi - all the usual facilities. The decor is a little dated, but the hotel is going through an upgrade project at the time of writing.
Breakfast is excellent - wide range of meat, eggs, cheeses, salad, fresh orange juices, coffee etc.
Evening menu has a limited number of dishes, Probably 2-3 starters, 3 main courses. Plus salads and sides. The quality is excellent though, all fresh ingredients. If you're staying for any length of time, you may well want to get a cab into the town for more dining options.
Staff are really pleasant and helpful. I arrived a few hours before the check-in time, so my room wasn't ready, but they swiftly found an alternative. They also gave me an extra couple of hours on the check-out time, as I had a later flight.
There is no fitness/room - but there IS a small well-heated indoor pool, which was great. (Most of the signage isn't translated into English, and sadly I don't understand much Danish - so you'll have to work it out for yourself or ask!) Hint - leave your shoes at the door. Wear the plastic overshoes, go downstairs to the changing room. Once you're ready, use the OTHER set of stairs opposite the towel room to get to the pool. (Towels are provided) There's a jacuzzi and a unisex sauna too, which I didn't try.
This part of Aalborg is mostly residential and offices, but the town centre is only a 10-15 min cab ride away, and there are frequent buses close by the hotel. If you really get stuck, there is a burger/hotdog place at the gas station at the end of the street which is ok.
Overall: if you need to be in this part of Aalborg, Scheelsminde is highly...
Read moreRead the edit below* Nice hotel, cosy, clean, friendly, hospitable, comfortable beds. Low speed WiFi with dropping signal, small rooms, pricey food, walls are thin, one old fashioned iron and board is shared between a block of four rooms.
The place can be uncomfortably noisy from 8-11pm and 6-8am, common with most hotels, but really not helped by the type of wooden flooring used for upstairs, the loud doors in close proximity, and the unsealed single glazed windows.
There was bad air emanating from the bathroom every morning and because the heaters weren't very strong, there was a choice between feeling warm or getting fresh air or vice versa.
Overall, a fair 5/10 having spent almost two weeks there to get to know the hotel thoroughly. EDIT 3 months later* I've spent another week here and the bedsheets were not changed once. The room was not cleaned for two days, no apology or attempt to clean after notification. The WiFi still drops out 100 times a day. There were live bugs under the duvet and dead bugs under the mattress. Very frustrating to wake up several times a night due to doors being slammed, no padding on doors. Rooms are so cramped up and small. Requested to never again book me in this hotel unless it's the...
Read moreOur family of four was invited for a stay at the hotel for a round birthday recently.
We got a family room and the room appeared renovated but the bathroom was not. Also in late November the heating in the bathroom did not work which was the same for other rooms, as we heard from other guests, we saw that the heat was turned up to the max but it still did not work.
The hotel was prepared in advance that we are following a vegan diet, and for the breakfast there were the following options available müsli, cornflakes, oats, soy yogurt, oat and soy milk, fruit, bread and jam. There was no plant based butter, even though I asked the server.
For the dinner, the host had ordered a set menu, also informing about the need to provide vegan food. The snacks and starter were fine and close to the omni-version. The main dish was a disappointment as it consisted of boiled potatoes, a sauce and grilled romaine salad. That was it. 😅 Definitely not that filling a meal. The dessert was fine again and vegan for all. The midnight snack were hotdogs and for the vegan ones the kitchen used stale bread from the same day's breakfast.
All in all, it was a disappointing experience and I would not recommend this...
