This is an open letter to Johan Söör the CEO of First Camp Group. What an opportunity your company is missing with your site in Aarhus. I am currently on a touring holiday of Denmark, travelling up the West Coast to Skagen then back south to Copenhagen. Every site we've stayed at has been busy, most have been full, even privately owned sites off the usual tourist routes have been busier and better than here. As a tourism organisation, you should know that occupancy is crucial, your site here, on a Friday night in high summer, serving Denmarks second city, is no where near full, I doubt if it's any where near half full. Standards are also crucial. The welcome we received on arrival was superb, your team told us everything everything we needed to know and we were given an excellent welcome pack with lots more information and advertising. So, you started off with 10, out of 10. Unfortunately, it's all gone downhill since then. The place is tired, very tired. You need to get the gardeners in to do basics like weeding, cutting back over grown paths, mowing the pitches to a sensible (short) length. You need to get the pool sorted out, the water is GREEN, I'm definitely not going for a swim in that. Yes, I know it's currently marked as being out of service, but green water in a swimming pool tells your customers a lot more than just the fact that you have a pool problem. The shower/toilet blocks need investment to bring them up to modern, acceptable standards. They currently look like you got them from an old WW2 film set. The children's play area looks promising, the play houses look particularly interesting for the kids to play in, but the paint is flaking, there's rotting wood clearly visible and, if I had any, I wouldn't let my children anywhere near them.
YOU and your fellow directors need to look at your competitors to see what they are doing and why they are full tonight. When I say look, I mean your actually need to go to these sites and LOOK. Might I suggest Ribe Camping and Aalborg Familie Camping Strandparken are the sites you should be aspiring to emulate. Try looking at Nordstrand Camping in Frederikshavn as a site between where you are now and where you need to be. Every site we've stayed at so far on this journey is better than this one, you have good people working here for you, but this site needs more than they can do, it needs investment, massive investment. I will not post any photographs, because you need to come here and see the issues, only then will you have any desire to do anything about it and move this place forward on its journey to be the very best it can be. The people who work here, your people, your most valuable asset, are doing their very best for you but they are being let down at the corporate level.
This site gives you a great opportunity to the successful operators of the best site serving Denmarks second city. You have an awful long way to go to get there. I wish...
Read moreThe campsite is a great stop for visits to Aarhus. You have about 9 km to downtown but there is a bus stop right at the door. Biking into town is also an option but be aware that Aarhus has a lot of hills so it is constantly up and down. You can get different sizes of pitches to accommodate anything from a tent to the biggest camper. There is also a small swimming pool if you want to cool down, and the owner is really nice and helpfull. There are small cabins on the site you can rent from 750-950 kr/day depending on size. They are newly build and I was very impressed with their quality. With so much going on for this camp site, why am I not giving it more than 3 stars? Well it's because there are some serious flaws as well. This is a camp site that clearly is in a renovation period, meaning there are some very nice and modern buildings like the reception and cabins, some that are starting to show age (the middle toilet building) and some that should had been torn down a long time ago (the toilet building next to the pool). Where most campsites today have free showers as part of the price you need to pay 5kr/4min here. This is a constant irritation when showering and reminds me of a site stuck in the past. In all this gives an experience of the service buildings below what you would expect. The pool area is not very big or inviting and during my stay the campsite was very windy. This is mainly due to that it's placed at the top of a hill and the vegetation is either sparse or not very tall. In general the site lacks the cosyness you find on a lot of other sites. I would say that it is a good site for a stop-over or 1-2 day visit to Aarhus, but I wouldn't book a 3 week stay here. But if you are mainly looking for a site to stay and maybe bring your own toilet and shower in your camper this can be a great...
Read moreThis was a very decent campsite - nice big pitches, spread over a nice campsite. The kitchen facilities provided where clean and tidy, with sinks and plenty of sinks and hobs for everyone to use. ||Again showerblock was clean and tidy and had regular cleaning which was great. Family shower rooms were nice too (just requiring your gate access card to get in). There is only one showerblock so can be a little walk from campers if you are parked at the furthest point away like we were but it was fine.||The campsite has a number of areas for kids to play which was nice - having a 12 year old, we used the big grass areas to play ball games, near the big pond.||Our son loved the pool which is a decent t size and very clean - we sat there several times on the sunbeds whilst he played in the pool.|The campsite is well situated to visit all the local attractions.||The on-site shop is helpful to buy milk etc, but there is a supermarket just 2 mins away by car also.||Would happily stay at...
