Short: warm-hearted staff creative interior mini-bar, coffee and hot water hostel income benefits creative young entrepreneurs bee-friendly and spacious garden animal-friendly house Long: We don't usually write reviews often, but due to our positive experience with this hostel, we wanted to share. We are extremely happy with our stay at Nexo Hostel, where we spent our entire Bornholm holiday (10 nights). The hostel itself is located in the former furniture factory and is nowadays both a hostel for holidaymakers and a place for young start-ups, creative young entrepreneurs and craftspeople. The whole hostel is very creative and lovingly designed (great glass work, paintings in the hallways) and they take great care of their guests. There is a 24-hour bar where you can buy drinks, snacks and kombucha, which was invented there (delicious!). There is also hot water and coffee. All proceeds from the hostel go to a good cause and benefit creative young entrepreneurs, we like that! All the staff, from the cleaners, breakfast servers, reception staff and management are really exceptionally friendly, warm and accommodating. We felt very welcome. There were nice conversations about the area, Bornholm and we also got tour tips. For example, the Paradisbakkerne are not far from the hostel. The breakfast is wonderful and prepares you for the day. We came here very spontaneously and that in the high season and we were really helped to find an accommodation in the hostel. We stayed for our whole holiday. The shared kitchen is great, everything you need, shared bathrooms are clean. The garden is very cosy, we often sat here in the evening to watch the sunset, you can barbecue, the garden is very insect and bee friendly (great!) and the hostel is absolutely animal friendly (some people had their dog with them). We can't understand some of the other negative comments. We are a young couple, we know hostels all over the world and this was one of the greatest! We are also looking for peace and quiet and we got it. There are all kinds of guests from young to old and everyone has been very friendly. A hostel is not a hotel, rather it is (can be) a place of encounter, and we had very nice conversations with Danes and Swedes and learned a lot. Sometimes it was noisy in the corridor, but before you blame the hostel for that, you can train your social skills and TALK to each other that you take care of each other. One sleeps longer, the other shorter. We thank Carsten and his team for our great Bornholm holiday. Best regards Felix and Kirsten...

When we entered the room, there was intense cigarette smoke. We felt really unwelcome, but we decided to give it a try. We then returned and went to sleep until midnight, when my girlfriend woke up coughing because the room was full of smoke. It was a terrible experience! We quickly opened the windows and tried to find the origin of the smoke, but we couldn’t locate it. We could barely sleep, and the next day we had a terrible headache, and even our clothes were smelling cigarette smoke. We went to the reception in the morning, but it was empty, so we called the manager. We explained the situation and requested a refund as our experience had been horrible. We also emphasized that the fire alarm in the smoker’s room did not go off and could be malfunctioning. The manager did not apologize or ask for sorry. We would expect him to support us and be willing to understand. Instead, when he came, he only tried to defend his hostel, discredit our words, and he even gave a handshake to my girlfriend, intentionally strongly locking her hand. We went together to check the room and, incredibly, the cleaning lady was tidying it up and had already opened the windows. As a result, he told us along with the lines, ‘sorry guys, but I can’t smell any smoke, and the lady cannot either.’ We felt like he was playing with us and trying to trick us. We discussed about getting a refund and he proposed that he give us half of our money back but only if we review the hostel with a positive rating on Booking.com and other platforms first and send him a link with the review confirmation. We left the hostel without agreeing on anything as we didn't succumb to blackmailing. There was no intention from his side to support us even though we had been very open to dialogue with him. This has been the most awful experience, by far, we ever had in a hotel while its manager has been...
Read moreMy son and I stayed here for two nights. We’d planned on only staying one but we liked it so much we added another. Staff is friendly and helpful, checkin available 24/7. We were put in wrong room type upon arriving and lovely manager Carsten quickly moved us and even upgraded our room. Entire facility was clean and comfortable. Kitchen facilities available, plus optional breakfast and packed lunch. They also sell coffee, tea, cold drinks, and kombucha made on site. The bus stop is about a 15-min walk away, but even with a big backpack and a toddler in tow I could manage it. You’re a short bus ride from charming Svaneke and, in the other direction, the white beaches of Dueodde. (It was difficult to find affordable short-term rentals in Svaneke and was a good alternative.) Nexø Butterfly Park is just across the street, and about 10 min walk away there’s an adorable cafe with homemade food and great lattes called Nadia’s. I’d totally stay there again. Best if you have a car or bike but on foot it worked...
