I was really looking forward to going to this place after a much needed renovation was ostentaciously completed. But I was bitterly disappointed. ||Being just myself and a friend, imagine our surprise that one of our starters was forgotten by the waitress. ||Unfortunately that was not the worst, nor the last, of our worries. ||The (socalled) waitress brought out our bottle of red wine already uncorked. This is absolutely unacceptable, but based on the fact that we wanted to give her some level of flexibility, we decided not to comment - which I concede is our own mistake. ||But then the clueless waitress brought out our main courses which I, before looking at the plates, could smell were burnt. Back to the kitchen they went - however the sauce boats and our once-used cutlery remained on the table. ||With the advent of new mains, cutlery and sauce, the old still resided on our table. And they probably thought that we would re-use the old spoons from the sauce boats with our new warmish sauce - or just didn’t care. Sad to say, we couldn’t be bothered, so we had to pour the sauce resulting in sauce stains on the table which is just annoying. ||The waitress was MIA, no clearing of spent utensils, no replenishment of wine - completely out of her depth. And not because she appeared to be overly taxed workwise. She had the time to stroll through the restaurant and past our table several times without a care in the world. Oblivious. ||Though it has newly been refurbished, it wasn’t completed yet. Walls remained unpainted and a long list of snaggings. But at least the host thought things were going well apparently. He was quite chatty with some other tables, and very obviously inebriated. ||Then there was the issue about noise level. Though we were sat some tables away, we could hardly hear ourselves due to an unsolved accoustic issue in the room. A table of 10, were a bit loud - as is to be expected - it just meant that we had to talk very loudly ourselves. That is something that ought to have been catered for in conjunction with the refurbishment. Missed opportunity. Such a shame. ||||All in all: slack/poor/non-existing service, pretty but poorly thought through refurbishment, and average food quality. With the pricepoint as it is, they can only get a...
Read moreThis hotel was the highlight of my trip to Denmark. From the moment we walked through the door we were welcomed as if we were family staying with them. It was after hours for check in but our keys were waiting for us. Staff came out from their duties to welcome us and gave us all the information on breakfast and whatever we might need. ||Rooms were typical size for Denmark - which is small. But not overly so. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms well lit. Bathrooms were nicely heated and were acceptably sized. Wi-fi worked well which is fortunate - it is not easy to get a cell phone signal. ||The hotel is pet friendly. The staff asked if they could visit the cats we had with us and we happily agreed. It was a great break in the day for them and they were very kind. Once again, a moment that made us feel like family. ||The location is gorgeous. The hotel is right on the water. Some rooms have views. The breakfast area has a great view. While I found the number of choices on the small side what I did eat was tasty. There is a great coffee machine in the lobby that can make you a fresh cappuccino or latte if you like. ||The dinner menu looked wonderful but we had so many plans we were unable to eat in the restaurant. Perhaps on a future trip we can do that. ||The decor of the hotel looks updated and it is a nautical style. It is really pleasant wandering through the hotel. ||I do hope I can stay here...
Read morePlease note, this review is only related to the restaurant.||Based on recommendation from friends, we went for dinner 4 persons, celebrating our son's graduation, and the experience lived fully up to our expectations. |The interior of the restaurant appears light, very pleasant and of high quality after the recent "upgrade".||We had 3 first + main courses á la carte and 1 menu of the day, and everything was very tasty and well prepared. A word of warning though, the shrimp cocktail is quite large, not leaving a lot of room for the main course :-)||In my opinion, this is a very high level of the classic Danish cuisine as well as newer dishes. Combined with great service and a beautiful view towards the Holbæk waterfront from the terrace, what's...
