Family trip to Orø camping site.
It was a nice little spot. Good for the kids. A play area and a good mini golf area.
The shared kitchen was crazy busy and there wasn't enough tools for the need that was required.
The shared toilets are under construction as there were hire trailers with 3 toilets and shower rooms. We had to queue a lot of the time. Which was hard with 2 small girls who had to learn to hold it for a length of time. The hot water was free though which was nice.
We hired the caravan which was not as great as we thought. We were aware we couldn't use the toilet or kitchen. Although, the holes in two of the windows, one of the beds were broken, as in the picture, and the smell. It was hard to explain, unpleasant or sweaty person that we couldn't get rid of. I couldn't stay too long inside.
The location is right next to the animal park which is walking distance and the beach is on the other side. There is a restaurant there too but it's not for people on a budget. There is one supermarket on the island and everyone uses it.
The staff are around if you can find them. And they are friendly. We also arrived a little early and they let us come in at no extra charge.
The atmosphere was slightly different than other camp sites. I said good morning those I passed but never got a reply.
I do recommend it if you have kids. Would I return, Maybe, but not in...
Read moreWe were camping here in the first half of August with our own tent, not using the huts or pre setup tents. It took us about three days before we finally met someone from the reception, until that time the reception office had been empty and locked. That also means that things like the mini golf or the sup board rent out might be there but they're impossible to use, since no one is around to provide you with them. There is no bread (or anything else) available, the nearest supermarket is 3km away. The toilets are old and not well cleaned. The layout of the toilets is weird: there are three stalls, each containing a toilet, a sink and a shower. That means that if you only need a shower you might very well be enjoying the smell of the previous visitor to the toilet. The kitchen looks nice but the fridges are not well kept; I've found 5 cartons of milk that were past their 'best before' date (some were more than 2 weeks past it). For three nights we were kept awake by the army exercising with helicopters and heavy artillery guns, and by camping guests who do not care about other people's rest. Charging 65 euros per night for camping in a place like this is ridiculous. The website is filled with quotes about the personal touch and the good food (never seen any of those), but this place needs some proper attention from its...
Read moreThe facilities in this campsite are beautiful. Gorgeous kitchen and indoor area, and nice sanitary facilities. Unfortunately, it is precisely this niceness of the indoor facilities that makes them so popular, and guests that have their own cabins will fill the room very quickly, leaving us tenters to wait outside with nowhere to go. The place has a family "home-away-from-home" feeling, but unfortunately it means everyone treats the site like it's their home, with little respect for other guest's needs. As an example, we decided to light ourselves a campfire and a bbq, as soon as it were lit we were kicked off our own campfire by another family (despite us sitting only meters away); the kitchen was consistently overtaken by one group, throwing us off whilst cooking our dinner, and taking a table we've secured for ourselves; and our stuff in the fridge was frequently moved around for others' things, forcing us to hide our stuff in a drawer. Not big things but shows the attitude of the the kind of people that stay here. Based on our experience, it is strongly recommended you avoid the weekend here. However, the owner, Jens, is very nice and helpful, and when it's not packed it's a really beautiful...
