My wife and I have become official envoys of the manor house Broløkke. This is of course an honorary title that the current owner of the manor Nils bestows on all of his guests. But it still gives you an idea of what this place is all about: making you feel a bit like a count in the good old days. ||||The manor Broløkke sits at the southern point of Langeland. A relatively derelict spot in Denmark. But Nils has made it his ambition to change (some of) that. ||||Over the last 10 or so years he has restored the house from ruin to a very beautiful, historical and personal take on life in the 1800 hundreds. ||||This involves restoring the beautiful painted walls to perfection, installing the house with an enormous amount of classical furniture, art and photographies. Not to mention the 15 or so stuffed out animals that the owner him self has shot (The polar bear and the monkey NOT included...).||||You really get a sense of history living in the house - but still you feel Nils so many places. This is not just a living museum. It is a mans ambition and life. This is what makes this Manor House stand out from all the other castles and Manor Houses that you can visit and stay at in Denmark.||||As you can read in a lot of other reviews the food is impeccable. Simple but beautiful. In season and “no bullshit”. They try to use local produce but I would have loved if it was even more in focus!!!||||Wine pairing is good and the price is very fair.||||The interesting thing about dinner is the fact that everybody meets up at 18.15 on the dot in the red livingroom. Here you get bubbles (nothing special but ok), a presentation of the dinner and wines and a charming tale of the house from Nils. This is when he gives you the honorary title of “envoy of Broløkke”. After the welcome everybody shouts out three horray for a great stay. Very charming idea and it gives the visitors a sense of belonging and togetherness. Cool!||||We stayed in the main building in a beautiful room with bath and toilet at a relatively low upgrade price. I would recommend this to anybody! It just gives you that extra feeling of the place. ||||I only have positive things to say about this place. Please go, enjoy yourself and say “hi” to the...
Read moreRestaurant: Poor quality for the price (details below), veeeery long service (3h for dinner).
Accommodation: be mindful that they just build a brand new building (5min walk from the mansion) to expend capacity and this one has nothing to do compared to the old building and looks like a motel (see pictures). Also, rooms are bookable even if the site is still under construction (see pictures).
Information: the Bistro was booked for a wedding and we could not access it for the entire weekend - we had no information about this at time of booking.
Our stay: We were downgraded to the motel building, despite having booked a « standard room » in the old mansion; we had to complain to change room. The receptionist said that she nicely upgraded us to the main building, but the second room looks exactly like the one we have booked, with the same features.
We had a diner at the restaurant expecting the experience to be tasty and fancy, regarding the price (685 DKK for a 5 meal menu, wine excluded). The food was very poor: no seasoning, no taste, undercooked, or overcooked. Also, we spend 3 hours in the restaurant as the service was super slow, eating lots of bread as we were hungry (the butter was in plastic container). Details: Starter was steam cooked white fish with hot lettuce, some fish eggs and that’s it. Next we had an overcooked portobello with dry cheese on top. The main course was OK with a tasty meat and juice but the sides were a full half-shallot and some undercooked carrots. Cheese was in small portion but OK, and the desert had nothing special (see picture). We felt overcharged for that 3 hours experience and complained to 2 staff member, who were nice and appreciate our feedback, but no action was taken after.
In summary: the quality of the services offered does not correspond to the beauty of the place,...
Read moreHerregården Broløkke is a fantastic place to stay and to enjoy a wonderful atmosphere and some tasty food.||The old buildings have been restored, and now it is possible to book a room there - either in the main building or in other buildings also belonging to the mansion..||Behind it all is Nils Palmquist, who now owns this fantastic place. ||We were there for 2 days and stayed in the main building in the room "Grevinden" (all rooms are different). Our room was in fact 2 big rooms and a huge bathroom, all in old style. Really nice. And we were received by Nils at our arrival and we had a very warm welcome.||We had dinner twice. The Chef is Frank and his food is inspiring and tasty, with local rawmaterials. The 4 dishes we had both nights were so good. And the wines joining the food had been selected by Nils. Simply fantastic.||We felt being home here, and Nils told the interesting story about the place.||We will be back - and here is a good advice: Go there and try it. It is...
