Don't go if you want to feel welcome. We visited Jesperhus in the summer of 2012 and again in 2014. We had a great experience in 2012 and came back with high expectations which Jesperhus unfortunately did not meet. All the facilities are still there and are fine, however the people working there are inconsiderate, rude and generally treating the guests as a nuissance. We had several bad experiences, and when talking to our fellow campers, they had shared some of these as well. We tried going bowling. Jesperhus was advertizing that if you could get a strike when a red cone was in front, you would win something like slush ice for your lane. This was something that the children really went onboard with because now maybe they could give their parents something for a change. What do you know, our neighbour lane did it! Their son got a strike with the red cone in front and ran up to bar to get his price, but came back in tears saying that the barkeep didn't believe him and he couldn't get the price. When the parents went up to set him straight, he told them that the policy was that he must witness the strike otherwise it wouldn't count. So in other word you would have to call down the barkeep (who was busy serving the guests) to look when you take your turn. That piece of information was not stated anywhere on the adds for this, and honestly why would you treat your guests with this kind of mistrust, not to mention the kids?! All for a round of slush ice, what does that cost Jesperhus? We also went to the jungle party with our kids, where they advertize that the kids get to go to the movies after the show. The food was so so, but that's not why you go anyway. You go because you want to give your kids a great experience. After the show, the kids were told to go outside near the cinema to get their pirate diplomas. While the kids were waiting in line for diplomas, they started letting some into the theatre. Before all the kids could get their diplomas, they shut the doors in front of the rest of the kids, telling them that they should have been there on time to watch the show. What the hell?! My kids where heartbroken because they felt they missed the closure of the party with the other kids. Understand this, it wasn't about that particular movie, it didn't matter, it was about feeling left out from the other kids inside the theatre. When I confronted the personel with this odd behaviour towards children, they told me we could just wait 20 minutes for the next feature and of course buy an extra cup of coffee while we waited. My kids didn't want that since it was about being with the pirate party and not about going to see just any movie. So I had to console them and do something nice with them at the caravan to end that day with a good experience. By now I pretty much had it with their treatment of the small guests at this place, so I went and complained to the manager about how they behaved towards kids, totally indecent. The manager outright called me a bad mother and accused me of making the situation bad for my kids. In a very condesending manor she told me what a good mother would have done instead, and also didn't understand why we felt we didn't have our moneys worths because we could have just seen the next movie instead. Apparently, she didn't understand when I told her that it wasn't about that movie, we can go anythime to see that darn movie because we have an all year pass to this attraction, it was about leaving some kids behind and blaming them for being late when they were told to wait in line for diplomas. They wouldn't refund our money for that evening, but offered us a 15$ teddybear for the kids with the comment "if I had my childrens best interest in mind, I would take it". This proves the level of understanding for their small guests and how they treat them to prove it. This terrible mother will not expose her kids to that kind of holiday...
Read moreJesperhus has an impressive online presence with great branding, addictive YouTube videos and good songs, some rivalling those you'll hear from DR Ramasjang.
Unfortunately Jesperhus itself simply cannot live up to their own marketing, at the vacation center and the park you get a clear feeling that no one has really tried to do their best to give paying visiters a great experience. Some high(low)lights:
All the live shows, the Goodnight Show, the Pirate Show and the shows in the park, are absolutely terrible. The actors can't sing and they mumble their way through what feels like improvised bits. It wouldn't hurt to practice the bits beforehand, you know? The employees are mostly young, badly trained and often seem completely disinterested in your needs. We waited for 35 minutes for french hotdogs and a sausage mix at the play center on a Monday with almost no other people in queue for food While the new huts are very nice, it is ridiculous that you have to bring toilet paper, soap, dish washing tabs, etc. for the price they're expecting Cleaning is supposed to be included in the price but when you leave, there is an expectation that you clean the oven, the refrigerator and that you sweep the house In general, the park feels badly maintained and like no real thought has gone into the rides. The 4D Cinema did not have its 3D effect turned on and the movement of the seats had no relation to what was going on in the movie, and the Treasure Hunt ride is a sad copy of the classic ride in the LEGOLAND park in Billund. With that being said, the indoor tropical zoo is quite good The water park is a glorified pool with so many people you could hardly get into the water. For some reason, several doors to the outside were open on one side of the building, so that side was freezing cold while the other had a tropical temperature
We have visited twice now, but will be going to Lalandia...
Read morePaid top price in high season for a pirate hut but disappointed at how little Jesperhus think of their customers. For the price you would at least expect to get some toilet roll in the bathroom - but no, no toilet roll, no cleaning cloth, no tea towel, no dishwasher tablets for the dishwasher....(all of this is supplied in Lalandia parks if you choose to stay there,at no extra cost.)
Then theres the cost - they charge per person: our hut sleeps 6 people - has 6 beds, but beware! they claim the price you pay is for 4 people - so if you fill your hut with 6 people you will be charged 10% of the total price for each extra person ( again this is not the case with Lalandia houses - you can fill all beds at no extra charge).
The kids are happy with the hut so thats good, but us parents can't help feeling ripped off, especially when Jesperhus wont even go the extra little bit with basic necessities in the hut..they are definitely out to grab every penny they can.
Every child is given a colouring/activity book with the possibility to collect some gold coins when finished - but no pencils or colours are supplied - they are conveniently on sale for about 8 euros in the shop so I wonder how many parents have felt obliged to buy them... The activities: No big issues here, the waterpark & playland are fine. Indoor and outdoor areas to choose from.
But final verdict - go to Lalandia instead - great waterpark/ bowling (which is free unlike at jesperhus) / minigolf/ playland / other activities, at reasonable prices per house (not per person) and they go the bit extra to make your stay easier -more value...
