Hvide Sande Hotel — Hotel in Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality

We recently returned for a very nice 2 week trip through Denmark. we stayed in a different place almost every night and generally everything was very good.||However we did stay two nights in Hvide Sande. Its a nice village in West Jutland. Theres not all that much choice for accommodation so we booked into Hvide Sande Sømandshjem og Hotel.||We have both travelled extensively through Europe,US,Canada,Australia, China and South East Asia.||Never have we felt so bad about a stay as we did about staying here. Firstly there was a letter missing in the hotel description. The word "Hotel" was used instead of the word "Hostel". The place was barely up to B&B standard never mind 1 star hotel. ||What annoyed us most was the things not mentioned before we booked. This hostel is run by christians. Every day they gathered in the lounge (which was their living room) for prayer meetings. Alcohol was not allowed within the hostel.||We both felt very uncomfortable our whole time there and felt their religion was constantly being pushed on us. ||The rooms were very basic (our room was 2 single beds which we had to push together -much to their disgust)The bathroom was so small that you had to take the toilet paper out while showering!||The last day we asked if it was possible to have a late checkout. The owner brought out the "Terms and conditions" and said if we did not leave by 10am precisely as agreed in terms he would charge us an extra night. (All he had to say was no Im sorry its not possible)||Considering we paid 900dkr a night we felt very ripped off (it had already been taken from our credit card,otherwise we would have left)||This place should be advertised as what it is "Christian Hostel" and not "Hotel" ||Other than this awful experience with this hostel we had a lovely stay in Denmark and will hopefully be returning soon. ||There is an actual hostel which is much cheaper on the other side of the bridge, its of the same standard without having someones religious beliefs forced down your throat.||Avoid this place...

As this is the only real "Hotel" in this nice coastal town, it is very hard to rate this. If you want to spend one night in Hvide Sande, this is one of the few choices.||||As noted in earlier reviews, this is not exactly an hotel but a mix between self service hotel and hostel. Rooms could not get any more basic than this. Our room had strange smell, probably coming from wall-to-wall carpeting. Bed linen and towels were clean and beds were comfortable.||||I would consider biggest issue is the fact that there is no permanent staff who could help in case of problems.||||Rooms are hot but ocean wind cools them down if you are able to sleep windows open.||||There are some religious artefacts on the walls but no other signs of disturbing activity was seen. (Except church bells ringing at 7AM)||||As a summary, this place would be a dump in a city but OK for a base for 1-2 day visit in this nice town. For longer visits, I would try to rent a holiday home.||||Good to note:||The checkout time is 10AM.||There is grocery store just next to hotel.||Local bakery (300 m from hotel) is excellent place...

Although this was a good place for a quick weekend trip, the overall experience was a bit confusing. Getting your keycard was our first obstacle, and I’m still not sure how it actually works. We spent about 10 minutes at the automatic machine in front of the doors, before a friendly couple staying at the hotel and let us in to where we found an envelope with our name and room number on it. The room was fine, especially for a short stay (we were just two people). Two, small, beds, a desk, two chairs, TV, small night stand, and a closet. The bathroom was decent, the shower was great, but there was no stuff to leave your toiletries. For breakfast you get a lunch box, traditional Danish style: pastry, bread, butter and jam, and a slice of cheese and meat. For a quick weekend, this could be your place!
