Overall, a really disappointing visit. My partner and I arrived at 12.30pm very excited for our stay in the junior suite. During the check in, they mentioned that the room was not yet ready but they immediately handed us an "early access spa visit" (once we checked out, we also realised that we were charged for this although there was no mention of this during check in). First red flag.
We visited the spa and in the ladies changing room, there is a shoe rack upon entry whereby you place your shoes and change into the hotel slippers. After 2 hours in the spa, when I am about to leave, I realise that my shoes aren't there. I look through the entire changing room but the result is the same. I quickly mention this to the reception in the spa who just ask me to leave my phone number and a simple description of the shoes. They mentioned to me that they will check on this and give me a call. I emphasise that I am very upset about this as this is a pair of branded shoes worth 9000DKK in addition to the fact that I don't have I don't have any other shoes with me.
Thereafter, I also mention this to the reception in the hotel and they said that the same - they will check on this. Throughout the entire evening/night, I did not receive any updates from them about the situation let alone a phone call.
Next morning, I go to both the spa as well as hotel reception to ask about any updates. None of course. Although they mentioned to me the day before that they will check the CCTV footage of everyone leaving the women's changing room, the staff on shift told me that they were unable to do this. Very contradicting.
I had to ask them whether there was any accountability as my shoes got stolen on their grounds. The lady at the reception said that she would check with her manager. This part to me shows how service minded any hotel establishment is.
They called us back stating we can get a "full day spa access" which (a) I of course don't really feel like and (b) We were commuting to another city in Denmark, Aarhus. Since I do not have any other shoes with me, they offered a 25% discount on the footwear sold in the spa and a cup of coffee in the lobby - both of which we of course rejected.
As I am half Danish and frequently visit hotels in Denmark, I can safely say that I will never be returning here again. I understand that accidents happen but I feel that this situation was handled so poorly by a supposed "well respected" establishment. Firstly, the fact that we were charged to use the spa that we didn't ask for especially after someone stole my shoes from the changing room. Secondly, the fact that we paid a premium for the junior suite. Thirdly, staff provided no updates on the situation, provided contradicting information and lousy discounts for items we did not want. For example, our meal last night, a discount on our stay, offering to pay a cab to the central station (as I am commuting in the hotel slippers) would at least have been a minor consolation. Evidently, they do not care much for retaining customers.
FYI - if you are thinking of visiting the spa which I highly do not recommend, make sure to not place your shoes...
Read morePurpose of my visit to this hotel was to have a pampered recovery day with my girlfriend, we even thought we would splurge a little and book the junior suite. Although the front of house staff were polite and sweet, the rest of the trip was a disappointing downhill slide.
Check in is officially at 3pm and because we got there a couple of hours earlier, they immediately offered 2 early spa access passes no questions asked. Little did we know, we were sneakily charged for this (albeit with a 20% discount) when we checked out the next day!
However, the worst part of our experience was after we were done at the spa. My girlfriend’s shoes were nowhere to be found. We approached the spa reception and they checked with staff situated around the spa but no one had seen anything. Apart from being very expensive shoes, the fact that it was the only pair she had made for a very frustrating and inconvenient situation. They informed us that they would look through security footage of people entering and exiting the ladies changing room but did not request a picture of the shoes. Instead a loose description we provided seemed to be all they required which did not bode well for our confidence.
We continued with our stay, intermittently checking with the management and spa reception in search of updates to no avail. As you could imagine, this did not provide for a very enjoyable stay.
In any case, we do understand that unforeseen circumstances do happen, but unfortunately what is critical is how the management at that point reacts to the situation. The way it was handled was very disappointing. We were offered a 25% discount for shoes/sandals they sold at the spa, and upon check out, offered a free cup of coffee and ironically free spa access for the day… go figure! At the end of it, my girlfriend left the hotel with a pair of their spa/bathroom slippers all the way back to Aarhus. I am part of the hospitality industry, and for a reputable establishment such as this, I feel the situation was handled very poorly. Some discretion and consideration should always been made for the guests. Even a little thing like offering the evening’s meal complimentary would have gone a long way. I suppose working in a 5 star establishment, my expectations are high and to me a distress customer will always be the last thing I want in my establishment.
Nevertheless, this will be the last time I ever patronise Skodsborg Spa hotel and will never recommend this...

Good vibes and a long history of health and healing here
We slept with our windows open in comfortable beds with warm comforters and woke up to birds chirping every morning.
The grounds are beautiful and the architecture an interesting mix of old and new with the Roman columns
The staff are all outstanding and went above and beyond to help us in every way, as well as offered help constantly
The seating is ample and they have everything you need to stay warm from heaters under the tables outside to a large fireplace inside with cozy couches
We are from Los Angeles and I am a preventive medicine doctor, I spent four nights there with my very energetic and rambunctious 8 year old daughter
Booked the hotel before I knew it was more of a couples retreat place for R & R but they were still kind to us and the service outstanding
My daughter loved the fuzzy teddy bear in the lobby, the food and games available, and played chess with me for hours
Our first room was 118 which was a bit of a pain to get to due to the lack of elevator to that wing but it wasn’t too bad
I loved the room as it overlooked the lawn and had fluffy robes, which we wore to the children’s pool to swim (which was lovely!)
The first night we were there we watched the fireworks on the beach for July 4th, which as an American I thought was quite sweet to celebrate (not that I am so invested, more charmed that others care).
The breakfast was amazing, healthy and fresh every day. The coffee was so good, and served “American” style. Yummy!
The weather was a bit cold and rainy but being from LA I loved it as we never get rain and Danes have made being “cozy” outside and hygge a thing to aspire to, which is cute.
We went paddleboarding on their private beach and used a paddleboard provided, so fun and gorgeous sea. Flat beach extending out so safe if you fall out.
I seriously wish they sold condos at this location so I could move there for the summer every year. Denmark is the best country in my experience, not a lot of people, they are all quiet and reserved, talented at appreciating and respecting art and architecture, have eradicated homelessness, harmony in landscape, quite flat, good air quality, no great white sharks, guns or poverty. The language is kind of hilarious as well. Will...
