We stayed at the Molsroen Strandhotel at the start of what was to be a journey of nearly four weeks with various stopping points in northern Europe. We had hoped that it would be a relaxed place to start off on our travels, so we booked three nights there. Unfortunately, our flight from North Carolina to Dulles Airport was delayed, so we never made our original connection to Copenhagen, giving us just a two night stay. The hotel was, however, still a relaxing place to be. It's an open and spacious hotel, with rooms for conferences as well as guestrooms. We were given a room on the backside of the hotel. The staff explained that most of the hotel was booked by large group of folks working for a high-end cookware company starting the day after our arrival; they thought things would be quieter for us at the end of the back hall. Things were indeed very quiet for the first day, as it seemed we were among the very few guests at the hotel. Even when the cookware folks arrived the next day (we gather they had all the rooms except for ours), the hotel didn't seem especially crowded or noisy.|||| The staff was very friendly and provided some good suggestions about exploring the area. The hotel is across the street from a beach, although it wasn't immediately apparent that there was much of a beach to be seen. There is a stretch of grassland, which is all that you can see from the road, but if you cross over the grassland, there's a pleasant beach on a quiet bay. Although sunny and dry, the weather on our days at Molskroen was somewhat cool and a bit windy, everyone I will give further prolonged rose the beach was almost deserted except for a few folks walking dogs. There was a nice view to the town of Ebeltoft about six kilometers to the southwest along the curve of the bay. The fact that there was a shuttered pop-up bar in the grasslands suggested that things might be busier on the beach on warmer days.|||| Our room at the hotel (228) was reasonably spacious, and the bed was very comfortable.||There was, however, almost no counterspace in the bathroom, and the glass shower door could easily slam into the outside of the sink if it were opened quickly (fortunately we only had to do that once before we learned). One trashcan in the room was probably a bit less than needed, but since we were unpacking a lot of things for a long stay in Europe, we probably generated more trash than most hotel guests. Breakfasts were great.|||| Prospective travelers reading reviews for the Molskroen Strandhotel should be aware that the classic old hotel Molskroen, just a couple of hundred yards up the road is a different establishment than the more modern establishment...

Read moreIt's a quaint little inn. Very old, it has been well maintained and is clean. We got a junior suite of some sort, however we noted the set up is actually for a family room, and frankly - a little strange. Due to the age of the place, the bathroom was downstairs while the sleeping area was upstairs. Just noting it here so that it will be expected. Bed was very comfy.
The restaurant has great quality food. And if you dont stay there, dining at the restaurant is certainly warranted.
Breakfast was left to be desired, as although whatever there was good, we did feel there could have been a little more variety. On one day there were no fruits. Cereal is not available, only one type of cheese, the only hot items are eggs and sausages... Basically, a little more would go a long way. On one day, it was also set up late.
The afternoon tea was great!
Dinner was good. We had 9 courses. The gap between each course was rather long, so we ended up dining for almost 5 hours. Which, to be honest, was a little much, considering the structure of the meal. There were, at times, more than 20mins between courses.
Our server, Matthias, was excellent. He was very attuned to the slighted changes in nuances at our table and anticipated needs fabulously. He also noted that I didnt speak Danish, and always ensured he conversed in English, as well as prepared an English menu for me. Perhaps would not be able to say the same for the gentleman in charge of the particular evening who seemed reluctant to approach when my partner motioned to him. However, that certainly didn't dampen the overall experience, as all the other staff in the evening were exceptionally courteous.
Overall, it was good, and service was friendly. But the smalls kinks in each area unfortunately doesnt allow for a full 5 stars. Nevertheless, good experience and will return if in the area.
Thank you Matthias and happy first year anniversary...
