We rented a 6 berth caravan, only minimally cheaper than the cabins, and were severely disappointed. Cupboards were falling of their hinges, latches wouldn't fasten so doors constantly swung open into the passageway, a table broke right through within minutes of arriving, the awning pooled water and leaked, the mattress was sunken, there wasn't even running water for the first 36 hours (though this was fixed eventually). It was also dirty and musty inside - particularly the duvet blankets (which were charged extra for, were damp and didn't come with any cover). Outside the air was rank with a smell of sewrage all day, especially after rain. The communal toilets were clean but smelt absolutely disgusting. All of this we could have accepted if it were budget accommodation, but we were paying top dollar; for the same money we could have rented a whole house in much better condition.||||The camping ground itself is good for kids, but we were led to believe by the photos and advertising that it is "on" the beach - be aware, it is not; You need to walk to the edge of the camp ground (about 500m) then another 300m or so down to the beach itself. Which means a very steep and exhausting climb back - not ideal with children. As a result, we didn't spend time on the beach swimming and making sand castles and picnic-ing as you might expect to do, because it was too much hassle.||||We stayed during the holiday period and the camp did organise activities for the kids which they enjoyed - but you have to pay for every little thing; camp crafts, painting, bikes (by the hour), even ping pong and table soccer! ||||Some of the staff were lovely - particularly kitchen staff, maintenance staff (who we saw a lot of because they constantly needed to come in and repair stuff) and some of the kids club helpers (esp. horse riding girls). ||||The management, on the other hand, wasn't nearly as friendly and forthcoming as they had been when encouraging us to book and pay 5 months in advance (the full, non-refundable amount, by the way). As a side comment, I'd been assured we could hire bikes at the camp to take advantage of the adjacent national park (this was a main reason for choosing Hanstholm), but the bikes were in no condition to be ridden anywhere but around the camp, plus there were no standard youth bikes (only large recreation trikes and trailer bikes for small children). Despite specifically enquiring about the hirage of bikes before booking, I felt misled by the advice given on this point. Additionally, the price was very high - in Copenhagen you can hire a bike for 40kr per day, at Hanstholm you'll pay 30kr for an hour.||||Hanstholm itself is also a disappointment - not much at all by way of nearby attractions or cafes/township etc; and the drive to Skagen is far enough to be off-putting (2.5 hours). So the camp is........

Read moreThe campsite is starting to feel quite worn down. We stayed in one of the green cabins with a private toilet, the cabin had clearly seen better days, as it was very worn and somewhat dirty. Itâs worth noting that some of the other cabins on the site appeared to be less worn than the one we stayed in. There was a strong and unbearable smell in both the menâs and womenâs toilets in the main sanitary building when we checked them out, so we were glad to have our own facilities in the cabin. The family shower rooms were of an acceptable standard.
Also, there is no beach directly by the campsite, even though some of the photos might suggest otherwise. We recommend visiting Thy instead, which has a beautiful beach.
Overall, itâs a decent place for a short stop, but the building is in need of renovation, as several other reviews also point out. There are better campsites in the area, so it might be worth considering other...
