Golden Bear Lodge — Hotel in Higüey

This is a golf resort and I would say not worth visiting unless you play golf. It was like a ghost town with no other guests visible and I thought I may have been the only guest staying. No doubt great if I was with a golfing group...||At reception I was given an envelope of poorly photocopied documentation that was entirely in Spanish. Lucky I speak Spanish. ||No phone in room so had to call reception on my mobile. No answer. ||No cash machine so no way to access cash but taxis come within a few minutes of being called.||The room was not very clean and was rather tired. One cupboard door was broken and didn’t close. There was however a little kitchen with plates and cutlery etc but no tea or coffee things which for me are important. ||The main light in the bathroom was falling out of the ceiling and didn’t work but there was hot water. ||The aircon was surprisingly effective! ||In short, I would really not recommend this place. My view was not great compared to other hotels here and clearly the place needs a facelift but won’t get it with so little business...

Ok so I book an aparment villa thru Booking, ( on booking it didnt said it was this place ) eventually when we got there, they coulnt find my reservation and the property owner of the aparment was not answering calls, email nothing. Thanks to the Costomer service guy I think his name was Luis, he was able to rent an other aparment. The place was really really nice. The view was lovely, you are able to call different restaurants to deliver food to the aparment. There is little pool on one od the two Terrace. Internet was good. My wife forgot one of her shoes at the room and she cotacted Luis and he was able to find the shoes and we picked it up. Totally recommend this place if you are coming to chill...

I'll start with the good thing I appreciated the most about this hotel: for the price we payed, the apartment I stayed in (two bedrooms with a living room and a kitchen) is huge. ||Things I didn't like: |- When you arrive, the young man at the check in is very kind and welcoming, but once you are in your room, if you have any issues you won't receive any help and your issue won't be fixed. We had to call twice because there was no hot water (For me, hot water is very important), after they finally sent a guy to fix it...
