We came here first 1999 and fell in love with this place. The grounds where / are basic but beautiful. there was only the big beautiful garden, the pool and a few small rooms. It was amazing. In one there lived a Haitian Mambo permanently. The old Jewesh owners later sold their property and moved to Santo Domingo for retirement. If you come to Sosua you should know about this: wikipedia-History_of_the_Jews_in_the_Dominican_Republic Since then the place chanced a lot. But if one looks for a quite cheap place to stay, this is a good choice. You are also on one of the main streets Pedro Clisante, just have to walk a few minutes towards center. No direct Beach Access. For a while it was allowed to bring local girls, dont know how this is now. Sosua works on improvement of the image since a while. But if you do so be aware, first check the actual HIV statistics. Sometimes the most beautiful girls are sick, and they wont tell you in advance. We were sitting in bars in Sosua where the german tourists talked about enjoying the girls without protection in german, and the girls talked about the disease and who has it in spanish. unfortunitly they didnt understand each other. We kept quiet not to spoil the romantic moment. Everybody looks for his...
Read moreI would highly recommend against staying at El Colibri unless you want rats and roaches crawling on you. I stayed here in May, 2014 and I swear to GOD I had this big freaking rat in the apartment where I was staying. My friend screamed when she saw it; I was sleeping but her screams woke me up. At first I didn't believe her and went to use the bathroom. While using the bathroom I hear my friend screaming again. When I go out too investigate, I see this big freaking rat run into the area where the bed was and then the next thing I know it jumps onto the bed and then tries to leap onto the night stand. We left immediately and went to speak with management. Bottom line, there was nobody available who could provide me with a new room so I had to check into a new hotel in the middle of the night. I already paid Hotel Calibri in cash....so when I had to leave because of the rat and pay for a new hotel room El Colibri never reimbursed me. I wish I was calm enough to video the rat running around the hotel room, but I just didn't think about it because I was in shock. This is a bad hotel. But, maybe if you stay here you may be free of rats...who knows. The big roaches are another matter and something people...
