Hotel Constanza Villas & Club — Hotel in La Hispaniola

Once again I bemoan the lack of a "good" rating on TA between Average and Very good. Also one must rate such establishments in context. Constanza is not a tourist spot and will not appear on "lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" so it is unreasonable to expect 5 star hotels here. We stayed on a medical service trip and it was an excellent base for that. ||||The primary needs on such trips include the avoidance of stomach bugs that is heavily correlated with food of course. Although we ate away from the hotel every night, the breakfast was very good, had variety and was safe. The rooms are very clean and although showing some age, are also very comfortable. The same goes for the beds - great night's sleep every night. There are mosquito screens on the rooms and also, should you desire, mosquito nets that can be erected around each bed although we didn't find the need for them in May when we were staying.||||There is a pool but to be honest, it looked murky and not inviting during our stay. The water was actually changed half way through but still didn't look good. Not wishing to suffer ill effects, none of our party swam during the stay. There are plenty of outdoor spaces in which to gather in the evening, and they have a fire to meet around which is nice. The local beer (Presidente) is readily available too.||||Staff are very friendly and checked us in and out without fuss and the price is extremely reasonable for what you get. Each room is in a two floored villa. I think the upstairs ones are better as there is a lockable downstairs door as well as a lockable room door. Although it always felt safe, this extra layer of security is welcome. There are no room safes here although people left things in the room with no ill effects.||||So, it is somewhat basic, but secure. I stayed at Hotel Constanza when I went for a family reunion. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. They had wifi. The staff was friendly and efficient. For the event, the hotel cooked five different meals and all were delicious. They had a swimming pool, a basketball court and outdoor patio with a stage for presentations. ||||I have stayed in the town of the Constanza before and the hotel was very noisy. Many of the nicer “country” hotels are further in the mountains so going into town is a hassle. This hotel was a really nice option. It was close to town, but it felt like the country.
