Silvia welcomed us with a great smile. She is a very welcoming host, and very service-oriented.||||The hotel is new, so everything sparkles and works. Also, the hotel is ecofriendly, utilizing solar and wind power for its needs, a good thing, since electrical power in these areas is anything but reliable.||||Further, the owners are involved in a local foundation to clean up the area. Their work is remarkable, and tangibly evident. The town's beaches are significantly cleaner than our last visit exactly one year ago. Factually, the beaches, and Ocean were so dirty then that I renamed the town last year from Punta Rusia (Rusia Point) to Punta Sucia (Dirty Point). It makes sense in Spanish... Now, that has changed. There is still a bit of garbage around on the beach, and water, but very, very, very little by comparison (which, by DR standards is truly unfathomable). I felt so great about the results of their efforts that we donated $20 to their foundation. I recommend you do the same.||||The hotel is a bit removed from the 1-street town. So, peace and quiet is readily palpable. For one thing, one is not awaken at 4:30 a.m. by a gazillion roosters, as it happens in other accommodations in town. I think there is only one, or two crazy roosters in the neighborhood of the hotel. Not enough to wake every body up.||||The hotel is beautifully designed, modern, abstract, minimalist style. The bed is of very good quality. Each room opens to the private beach in front of the hotel. The whole wall, which is also the only entry to each room, is sliding glass doors. Mosquito screens on the doors allow full view (wall-to-wall) of the tranquil beach and Ocean in front of each room.||||The bathroom has plenty of room, a shower with both, hot and cold water, good pressure, too.||||Watching the sunset is quite a tranquil experience from the beach, or even from the terrace of each room.||||The only things that I hope the room offered were: 1) a light above the bathroom sink/mirror, which is particularly important when shaving for men, or putting make up on for women, 2) a toilet paper holder (hate to chase that roll around with shorts around my ankles when it slips out of my hand), 3) A more varied menu, 4) better quality fruit for breakfast. Factually, the pineapple was way green both days, and the mango almost green. Hard to believe in a country where one can get a ripe, juicy mango, or pineapple anywhere, at any time. None-the-less, the breakfast was overall the best in quantity from all our 3 trips to DR, 5) offer marmalades made from local fruits (mango, pineapple, papaya, etc), which are way better, tastier, cheaper, and add to the exotic local flavor, as every hotel just about does.||||It would be great if the rooms had A/C, particularly for the price. Although, the electrical power sources at the hotel might not be sufficient to support A/C units. The rooms get quite hot at night. Although, we figured out that the night heat became more bearable if one leaves the front sliding doors wide open and the fan going at max speed all day, and night. ||||The property/compound is safe and secure. So, one can leave the sliding door open, with just the mosquito screen closed, all day. ||||The beach is small, but nice. One can swim to snorkel the reefs near by, or, as one other guest was doing, windsurf the nice and steady side-on E winds.||||We really enjoyed the peace and quiet that the...
Read moreThis is my third time to Punta Rucia but the first time at this hotel. On this trip, I came with a friend who was visiting from outside the country. The proprietors Fran and Silvia greeted us upon arrival with a welcoming and calm demeanor and we ended up having a nice conversation with them for about a half hour. Silvia set up our excursion to Cayo Arena, early the next day with a knowledgeable guide and boat with snorkeling equipment which was outstanding. The amount of fish, colors and coral life is surreal and a must-see and the reason to come to this part of the country. We had the boat to ourselves and could leave when ever we wanted which is a nice perk. The excursion included a nice assortment of local fruit and water. We stayed for three hours and the cost was less than 100 dollars for the two of us. We were happily surprised the hotel didn't take a cut in the price of the excursion even thought they set-up the appointment. ||The hotel room was clean and queen beds comfortable although some people may be a bit warm without A/C but for the excellent price of the room, one cannot complain. The hotel runs on solar and wind power so I wouldn't expect this to change in the near future. There was hot water and I slept very comfortably with the overhead fan and the large screen doors providing a breeze. The breakfast which is included was nice with fruit, bread and butter with preserves and your choice of coffee or tea. We both ordered tea which came in two small japanese style iron tea kettles, was a nice touch.||The night we arrived we walked down the road and found a Pizza restaurant that Silvia recommended. Amazing pizza with the quality ingredients made by the owner who is an Ex-pat Italian, served on the beach. The pizza was so good, I believe we talked as much about the pizza as we did the excursion to Cayo Arena. ||Conclusion: The best bang for your buck trip I've found on the Dominican Republic. Adventure seekers, nature lovers and travelers on a tight budget...
