He told us he was doing paperwork and asked us to sit down and wait for him to finish. In the meantime, three separate guests came up to the desk and he booked their boat times ahead of us. The location is beautiful. And the concept is great. But that’s where it ends.

Unfortunately, the service was absolutely horrendous. The front desk manager, a grumpy old Italian man, put a dark cloud over our entire experience. He should not be allowed to work in the hospitality industry.

We had pre-paid for a ā€œVIP excursionā€ to Bahia de las Aguilas. At check-in, we asked what we needed to do to reserve our boat time. He told us we could not do it that evening, we had to come back the next morning. So the next morning, we arrived at the desk when there were no other guests. Expensive for what you get. We stayed at the Cactus suite and other members of our party stayed in the tents in front of the beach. When we arrived our room was not ready and even though we paid for 4 people for the tent, we only had two towels to shower and had to call to get more. Also, nothing is provided so bring your own water and beach towels. Again for the price you paid (almost $300 for one night for cactus suite 4pax) you get nothing! Food at the restaurant is very expensive for what is provided and service is subpar. Beware of the prices of the food! we were charged $50-100 pesos more than what was listed for our food. Good thing I looked! When I asked, I got an attitude from the waitress who told me all prices had gone up the day before? but hadn't been updated on their printed menu outside or their whatsapp reservation system. How convenient! We asked we were never told that and again, receive an attitude. I refused to pay until I spoke with a manager which wasn't available until the next day. Mind you, there were 10 people in our group and everyone's dish got an increase which would have brought up our bill by almost $1000 pesos (18 dollars) not a big deal but it was the dishonesty and lack of information who was very upsetting. We had asked for a printed menu so you'd think they would have informed us then but nope. Luckily it was solved once we spoke to management the following day. Breakfast is subpar and if you want water for breakfast then you have to pay for this too. The concept is nice however, it is more about the hype since it is not just the price it is what you get for the price. They need to train their staff better and at least offer water in the room and beach towels since they do have their own beach. I recommend going for one night and staying on the tents at Playa las Cuevas. There is also a restaurant called "Dona Charo" right by Las cuevas with amazing food, service and prices!! They will even set up the boat for you at a better price than Eco del Mar. Francisco (from Dona Charo) is wonderful and kept checking on us even...

Amazing Experience at Eco Del Mar - Pedernales, D.R. I recently visited Eco Del Mar in January with my mom, big brother, and son, and it was an unforgettable experience. This was my second time visiting; my first visit was about three years ago when I stayed in a beautiful big tent with my wife, two kids, mother, aunt, and two sisters. The tent was spacious with three beds, offering both comfort and an authentic beach vibe – truly a unique blend of nature and relaxation. The location is absolutely breathtaking. Situated right on the beach, the views of the clear blue water and soft sand are stunning, and the peaceful atmosphere adds to the charm. The setup at Eco Del Mar is thoughtfully designed to blend with the natural surroundings while offering comfort and convenience. One of the highlights is the exceptional service. The staff was always friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed to fully enjoy our stay. They also offered boat rides to the natural beach, which was a fantastic way to explore the area and immerse ourselves in the serene beauty of Pedernales. The food was delicious, from fresh seafood to traditional Dominican dishes. We enjoyed every meal, especially the seafood plates and the breakfast by the beach, which made for a perfect start to our mornings. Cons: The journey to Pedernales from Barahona can be quite tough, especially as the road conditions are challenging. Currently, they are doing construction in the area to enhance tourism, so be prepared for some rough patches along the way. Additionally, while the beach setup is great, having a dedicated ice fridge for personal use would be very helpful. If you plan to leave the beach and explore the city, keep in mind that the road conditions to the city are not great at the moment, especially if you’re looking to experience the nightlife or visit clubs. Despite these minor challenges, Eco Del Mar is an incredible place to unwind, connect with nature, and enjoy the beauty of the Dominican Republic. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to return for more amazing memories!

Before we arrived we were told we would get cocktails at the time of arrival, when we arrived the receptionist mentioned it but never gave it to us. The rooms have no safe to keep valuable belongings, the beach is NOT what is advertised on their social media it was filled with sea weed completely from side to side. The beach they advertise is Bahia de las Aguilas which is an excursion that you have to pay for. Only breakfast is included they changed the menu and didn’t tell us we found out when they brought what was available. The ONLY juice option is Grapefruit juice out of so many fruits grown in the Dominican Republic. When we were 15 minutes away it took us 1 hour to arrive because all the roads are blocked and there are no signs or directions to guide you. The landscaping is terrible not 1 palm tree or anything appealing to the eye. We asked if they had aloe vera plants for sun burn and while one employee said yes the second said no I guess not to have to look for it and then he went and got it when we said why are you saying no and she’s saying yes. The check out was fine, they even charged us for ice. One waiter was as really nice and friendly but I didn’t get his name but I know he worked in the afternoon shift and wore big hoops. The staff definitely needs customer service training and name tags. The first day when we woke up we didn’t have water but they turned it on shortly after. The water to shower and brush your teeth is salt water from the ocean. The Valentine’s Day dinner was nice. We drove 8 hours to get here if we would have known we would have simply done an excursion to Bahia de las Aguilas but would not have stayed at eco Del Mar. With a dirty beach and no pool, jacuzzi there is NOTHING to do there but sleep and eat.

A six hour commute from Santo Domingo.. Far away from everything describes the best Eco Del Mar .. Nice concept of camping/glamping with a beautiful blue Caribbean water .. If you don’t wanna go where everyone goes to Bahia De Las Aguilas stay here. Beach is only for you and I think is priceless .. even though Cactus Suites are about USD$220/Night you don’t get a bottle of water in the room.. bring yours knowing that there’s not such a fridge. Big outside bathrooms are nice and has a lot water pressure.. just a bit salty.. No beach towels offered.. Bring your own amenities -Shampoo, Cond, Soap- theirs aren’t good quality.. There’s not AC but ceiling fan and believe is windy all day.. You won’t feel hot at night when sleeping. Good bedding and comfy pillows but room never got cleaned.. I do believe you should get more for what you’ve pay.. The restaurant serves decent good food considering how far they are, but honestly.. breakfast is a real joke. Only 3 options and not well portioned .. Staff is giving you a smile but the service gets really slow .. So wait for everything.. The concept of Ecological can be discuss when it comes to recycling, the wastewater at the facilities, generating electricity and keeping property clean. I would have appreciated if someone asked me about my stay, but looks like they don’t care much.. and even people commenting here. I might return again and recommend to other travelers but knowing that it is on the expensive side. *Tents on the beach looked nice but I do think it could be hotter than a wooden structure: Cactus Suites..
