Las Mariposas — Hotel in Samana

Expect basic Dominican Republic style accommodation. We were three staying in the Stella two-floor duplex.

PROS:  The outdoor kitchen was well furnished, the beds were comfortable, the windows have mosquito screens, there were fans in both rooms and an AC between both the host was friendly, the garden outside is spacious and green, there is room for parking your car inside the garden, good internet and a nice communal area for sitting and chilling with friends. There was a rooftop balcony with a nice view.

CONS: We had a car so it was a 6 minute drive, but if you don't, expect a 32 minute walk down to Playa Galeras. Not sound-proof apartment at all so if you're sensitive to noise, bring ear plugs as there's the neighbour's barking and whining dogs at night and in the morning (and also the presence of a rooster). We also had a two floor apartment  and the floor boards are very loud when the person above us is moving around (also no door for between upstairs and downstairs bedroom, only the stairs, so you can hear everything). I just saw that it's listed as having free breakfast.
