We just came back from our short jungle trip to Huella Verde. Thank you Christof and Dagmar for this amazing experience! You are awesome!!!||Huella Verde is located about 1 hour drive from Puyo, in a small community of Canelos. It is driving distance from Quito or even Guayaquil. You can combine it with stay in Riobamba or Banos.||The lodge is small, very private, cabanas are super well maintained, clean, functional. The owners are taking a very good care and constantly improving them. Views are beautiful. The jungle tour with a native guide Luis is a unique experience: you walk in mud, through little creeks, it is a real jungle :o). The community tour is very authentic. If you expect to see painted indigenous people dancing for you it is not the right place :o). You see the life like it is and you learn a lot. Christof is an excellent guide! Cacao tour is definitely worth to do as well! It was best hot chocolate I drink :o). The food was yummy. Even my picky kids were eating :o) If you have kids take them with you! They discover and learn so many things there: swimming in the river, plants, animals, simple life, board games, what to do without tablet :o))). Yanacocha Animal Rescue Center in Puyo is also worth a visit, especially for kids. I will share some pictures because Huella Verde is a place to recommend! Good luck Dagmar, Christof and Tiago! It was a pleasure...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I recently visited Huella Verde and loved it! The host, Christof, was warm & welcoming and is a FANTASTIC cook! Some of the best food we tried while in Ecuador! Definitely try the Maito (fish wrapped in banana leaves), I think it was named 'Amazonian dish' on the menu! We stayed 2 nights, although an extra night or two would have been nice! Its a good balance of luxury (beautiful, clean bungalows) & jungle experience! We went on the hike with Luis, who was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna! He explained in great detail the medicinal properties of various plants - e.g. Sangre de Drago (Dragon's blood), and Guayusa, to name of few. Christof also supplies you with boots to go hiking, which is a must! So be sure to bring long socks as well. ||Getting to Huella Verde is an adventure on its own! After crossing a bridge, you walk another 1km to reach to bungalows. The location is private & secluded, and just a few minutes walking you can reach the beautiful Bobonaza river beach! ||With only 2 bungalows, Christof runs a small but personalized venture. He is truly intent on creating a unique experience for everyone. We hope to return again one day!! Thank you Christof and Luis for making this such a memorable...
Read moreMy husband and I live in Guayaquil and we wanted to go to the rain forest during a recent 4-day weekend. We found Huella Verde which is only 2 hours from Banos by taxi ($50) - you can also take the far cheaper bus but the trip will be about an hour longer. Huella Verde is located off the beaten path, just outside the small town of Canelos, southeast of Puyo. The lodge is rustic and it is set in a beautiful swath of the rain forest. There are only two cabanas - the rooms are large and the patios even larger with amazing views and hammocks. We went on a guided hike on the lodge's own trail where we experienced the sounds and sights (and the rain) of the rain forest. The Lodge's Swiss owner (Cristof) and his Ecuadorian wife (Dagmar) went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and fun. Cristof took us into the Kichwa community and introduced us to a ceramic artist there. The artist is a Kichwa woman who crafts beautiful bowls out of local clay and intricately paints them with brushes made of her own hair. We visited her very rustic workshop and bought six of her bowls. I highly recommend Huella Verde for a great jungle experience without having to travel a...
