Edén provides a beautifully run, indigenous-owned experience into the AMAZON. Always keep in mind that’s what this is about. You will be in the Amazon! Eden is farther inland than many of the other lodges (better bird-watching). It sits on a large lagoon. Its placement means every night one of the guides will quietly take you along the lagoon and sometimes into the exiting rivers, searching for birds and other wildlife. If you’re lucky, the great Arapaima will splash up looking for air. Birds - I am not a birder but we saw many birds. Here are a few. Horned Screamers, Hoatzin, Wattled Jacana, Large-billed tern, Chestnut-eared Aracari, Russet-backed Oropendola, parrots, macaws, toucans, grey-winged trumpeters, night hawks. You get the picture. We hiked in the jungles, canoed the lagoon and rivers, and visited the community. There is also a bird tower. The staff were all lovely and invested in making sure you had the best stay. The food was amazing. Most of the food has to come in on the boat with you and it shocks me what they can prepare. I am vegan and was so grateful for the variety and creativity in what must have gone into the planning. Stuffed avocados in the middle of the jungle? Come on. All kinds of different fruit juices and fruits. Beds were comfy. Grounds manicured (in fact, just wait for the wildlife from the grounds!) The trip in and out can take about 5 hours all in. But that is just part of the experience and they try to make it as comfortable as possible, including a warm...
Read moreI traveled to Eden Amazon Lodge with my wife, son (7yr), and a group I was leading. They have one of the best boats I have ever traveled on out of Coca, Ecuador down the Napo River. As you cross the Yuturi Cocha lake and the lodge comes into sight you know you've made the right decision to come here for your Amazon experience in Ecuador. The setting is enchanting and the facilities are incredible for such a remote location. Our rooms were extremely clean, with plenty of storage space, a ceiling fan, and nice hot showers. They also have mosquito nets but we didn't need to use them because the rooms were very well screened and sealed. AND, the guides, kitchen staff, and management were exceptionally friendly and hard working. Some folks in our group had dietary restrictions that accommodated without an issue. They even asked our group what kind of food we preferred so they could cater to our tastes. The wildlife viewing was amazing and so was our experience visiting the community where we were treated to a traditional dance and purchased very nice handicrafts made by the women in the community. The community Shaman came to the lodge one evening and performed a traditional cleansing ceremony for our group that was a great cultural experience for everyone. I have to say again that the wildlife was incredible too - many monkeys and other mammals, plus tons of birds, frogs, lizards, snakes, caiman, and astounding insects. I'll be back to...
Read moreMy wife and I have traveled all around the world but have never had an experience as amazing as this one! The team that hosted us at the lodge made sure we were well taken care of during our entire stay. We were able to explore the Amazon rainforest and also go fishing for piranha's in the evening. Jose cooked all of our meals; it was restaurant worthy. We hiked to the top of a tower for views of the rainforest and also visited a local village to meet with a beautiful family. We took our 11 month old son with us and trekked through the rainforest. Definitely not something for the faint of heart. 😀 Lots of mosquitoes and snakes! Awesome place....
