We stayed at this hotel because we were participating in a bike ride from Quito to Tulcán, so we made a stop in Ibarra. At first we were scared because the hotel is located in a not so nice part of town. It is close to the main market and the train station, which was a bit of a scary place, but Ibarra is a pretty safe town, so don't worry. It is within walking distance to one of the main malls and a lot of restaurants. Stores close early (around 8pm) so be sure to eat or buy stuff before they close.||||The hotel was pretty clean and comfortable. The guy at the reception desk, which I believe is the owner, was very kind and helped us clean and store our bikes that afternoon. He later showed us where to eat and was kind enough to wake up early to give us our bikes in the morning. Since there is no restaurant and we had to leave at 6am, we stored our breakfast in the reception desk refrigerator.||||Although there was a wifi connection, none of us was able to connect, but fortunately we all had data plans on our phones, so we didn't worry...
Read moreThis is an inexpensive hotel (I paid $22 USD for a single room) a couple of blocks from the bus station in Ibarra, but the rooms are surprisingly modern, clean and spacious. Normally in this price range in Ecuador, hotel rooms will be uglier and older. So I was very pleasantly surprised.||||I don't think the neighborhood is dangerous at all, but it is near the market, so it might give off some "rough and tumble" vibes since it is not in a fancy part of town. Overall Ibarra is very safe.||||My only complaint - and this is very common in South America and probably the whole world - is that the rooms that face the street are much noisier than the other rooms. And there is a rooster that lives nearby that deserves the death penalty for his singing, so ask for a room that is not facing the street if you stay here.||||I would definitely...
Read moreThe modern hostel is right in the market area of town, not far from the colonial centre. The ladies who seemed to run the place were pleasant and the room huge, modern and comfortable. So why then did it only score three out of the five possible points? As soon as I had a closer look around I couldn´t help but notice dirt everywhere, wiry hair in the bed (before I used it) and in the bathroom. The basket for toilet paper or a plastic bag with trash were left untouched the whole two days. The room was not cleaned during my stay (which I wouldn´t mind as long as the toilet paper basket is emptied). ||||Don´t get me wrong - the hostel is by no means disgustingly filthy, but cleanliness in the rooms does not seem to be high on their agenda either. Pity, because otherwise the Hostal Fevilamir would be a clear...
