My wife and I recently spent two nights at a property we won't soon forget, in a very good way. Located just 3 or 4 km outside Ibarra, the beautiful, tranquil location on a farm overlooking a canyon near a train crossing, with volcano views was just the chill out we needed.||||Although our room itself was somewhat no-frills, the peaceful atmosphere and great views were a welcome respite from car noise, alarms and barking dogs that are almost a given elsewhere.||||What really made it special was the hospitality shown by the well-travelled, hardworking energetic hosts Carlos and Doreen. Much of the delicious food served here is grown on their property, even the fine coffee. They are big proponents of local, organic sourcing.||||The rooms and facilities are constantly kept looking their best and the grounds have been transformed into a place where a variety of local birds come to feed providing, along with their pet dogs, great substitutes for television.||||You are really made to feel at home here and the hosts truly care about showing the best of their community to you, and creating an atmosphere where all guests get to know each other.||||As we did not have a car, we were initially concerned this location may not be convenient, but it is only a short cab ride away from town and should only cost 3 or four dollars fare. Carlos will also help out with any other queries you may have about activities in this area.||||It was truly a pleasure to stay at this wonderful place and to be treated like family. I would highly recommend Hosteria Canonvalle if you...

Everything was fresh, delicious and plentiful. ||||Our home, the cabana de familia, was comfortable and the perfect amount of space for a week's stay. The view over the river looking toward the train track (we only saw it twice, always during the day) just makes you smile and feel alive to be in a place so magical.||||The property is an oasis, plain and simple. Hummingbirds, flowers, avocado, lime, lemon, orange trees. The views of the volcanoes before the fog sets in. While we were there, the property hosted a local wedding. Just seeing the spaces they created for that special occasion and the food they catered, I couldn't imagine the place could get more wonderful, but it did for that lucky couple's special day. ||||If you find yourself in Ibarra, this is the...
Read moreMy husband and I visited Ibarra primarily to visit the woodworking talleres. We wanted to stay in a quiet place and picked Cananvalle based on trip advisor reviews. We were so glad we did. The grounds are beautiful and graced by a large variety of hummingbirds and tanagers. Carlos, the owner, was welcoming and delightful to talk with as he explained the history of the land and showed us the diversity of plant and animal life. ||The rooms are basic, with good hot showers, comfortable beds and only the sound of frogs to lull you to sleep. The breakfast was fresh and delicious and served in a lovely room where you can watch the birds out the window. It is a bit out of town, but taxi fare is only $5.00 and we never had problems getting one. We actually planned to stay one night, but we ended up being there two as there was a transit strike and we couldn't leave!!! We were happy to spend...
