First stop for most hikers on the Quilotoa trek. When you take an early bus from Latacunga to Sigchos and you are an slightly experienced hiker you probably arrive here in the early afternoon.
As expecting sharing a room with snoring and smelly hikers I was gladly surprised that I had a two person room for myself! The room itself was equipped with two single beds, plenty of sheeds and a view which you won't have in concrete jungle back home.
You might have been arriving with other hikers. You might consider them as your friends after the nice conversations and sweat and tears that you shared. The end is crucial however. Make sure you're the first that flushes the sweat through the drain as the chance of doing this with hot water is significantly higher.
Around seven the delicious dinner is served, three courses and that for around the $16 that I paid, that's even reasonable for a Dutch guy! Tea is included in the price!
If you miscalculated you're packing in Latacunga and ate all your food don't panic as the hostel houses a little shop where they sell everything you need and more to avoid starving from hunger.
After dinner you might consider to spend some more time in the common area. As I don't travel to do board games I picked a book and wished everyone a good night of sleep. Make sure to mention that you really enjoyed the hot shower this afternoon.
Breakfast is served half past 7, a bit late in my opinion, but hey when in Eduador..
Enjoy the trek the next days and make sure to stay on the route! At almost 1/3 of the route I took a way up which costed me a hour and became frightening now and then as it became...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here for 2 nights while doing the Quilotoa Loop hike. We got a private room for $36/night (breakfast and dinner included), booked via WhatsApp. Our room was spacious and clean, and the hot shower worked well. The wifi was also pretty decent.
Our host, Mirian, ensured that we were well-fed. In fact, we had some of our best meals here on the Quilotoa Loop! She was also fastidious about keeping the hostal clean, and the common areas and corridors outside our rooms were kept spotless.
There is also a small grocery shop in the hostal, which stocks basic foods and essentials. We bought some bread (4 pieces for $0.50) and pasta de mani (grounded peanuts, $2) from there to make peanut butter sandwiches in lieu of ordering the pack lunch, which mainly consisted of a ham/cheese sandwich and some small snacks. Filtered water is also available for free in the shared kitchen.
There is a small garden in the hostal where some chickens and rabbits are kept. We also enjoyed chilling in the hammocks outside the...
Read moreOwner was very friendly and showed us the room when we arrived. Room spacious and clean with plenty of natural light and beautiful views. Bathroom clean, unfortunately we had no hot water in the morning but that was bad luck as another guest had plenty. Owner is an excellent cook, we were served a pumpkin soup with popcorn, chicken in a creamy sauce with potato and egg frittatas and a large salad. Desert was a banana empanada with dulce de leche sauce . Delicious tea made with hierba luisa after. Very comfortable and beautiful accommodation with a fire to keep warm. Very well priced for what you get. Breakfast included coffee, hot chocolate, fresh (non watered down) juice, fruit salad, porridge, eggs and bread. The owner makes delicious sandwiches for the next day for $2 and you can buy water, fruit and chips at her shop for cheap. Would recommend staying here above anywhere else in the area. Wifi worked when next to router although cut a few times. Wifi did not work originally in the room but then worked...
