Read moreOverall, I think this place is still trying to figure out what it wants to offer. They should not advertise unestablished activities.. and they should not leave their guests upon arrival! I made a reservation for 4 people, after reading that the Hacienda would have numerous activities like a guided tour, bike rides, fishing, walks, etc. etc. When we arrived, we did not see any signs of where to check in, so we wandered into the office and were greeted by the owner, who kindly introduced herself and said she would get us situated. That wouldve been great! However, 5 seconds later, the owner was approached by another guest- an embassador visiting Ecuador. She literally abandoned us without even pardoning herself. We waited for about 20 minutes without any further welcome. I approached another employee and asked if he could help us because the other lady had left us. He said he would help, but turned away. We were overall super confused with the offerings, where we were suppossed to go, and even where the bathroom was. However, the scenery was very pretty, they gave us a glass of canelazo, and they had a "llama show" in which about 20 llamas came into the main area so we could feed them carrots. That made the experience worth the...
Read moreThis is a jewel set in the Ecuadorian countryside. If you like to be surrounded by history, this is your place. It was built on the site of an Inca palace. Walls of an Inca chapel remain and the dining room features smoke-blackened Inca walls. A former president of Ecuador once owned the hacienda and it remains in the family, currently owned by his granddaughter, whose father was an amateur bullfighter. There is an actual practice bull fighting ring on the premise. The hacienda is beautifully landscaped and the rooms we stayed in were exquisite- with comfortable beds, fireplaces, and hand-painted walls. ( My bathroom had chubby naked mermaids.) The hacienda staff is happy to arrange excursions. We visited is Cotopaxi national park ( and the famous volcano.. where warm clothes and breathe), Lago del Quilotac, a lake set in a crater of an extinct volcano, and a rose farm. For those less adventurous, you can milk cows, ride bikes, and feed the llamas on the premise. Or maybe curl up next to Lady Gaga, the sweet young puppy on the farm, in the library next...
