Read moreI had the pleasure of meeting the owner, and eating pizza that he personally made for us. A lady I met knew him and we were able to have a lovely visit. I lived in Olón for about 5 months and have a big soft spot for this place. It's so quaint and quiet -- it really embodies the town it's in. There are many hostals I've seen in Olón but this one takes the cake. If the lovely owners and the amazing pizza don't sell it for you, the location will. You are a 5 min walk away from the beach of Olón, and a very quick cab ride to the heart of Montañita. If you don't want to be among the noise all day/night, definitely consider this hostal. You do not have to stay in the heart of Montañita to be able to enjoy it. In fact, staying in Olón gives you the best of both worlds, and I couldn't imagine staying at any other hostal. The hostal is also right on the bus line, so it's very easy to take the bus in either direction (towards Montañita/Guayaquil/airport, or the other direction towards Puerto Lopez). It is also very close to El Santuario, the beautiful open-air church that is the major site to...
Like the whole of Olon, this place was extremely quiet when we were there. I think we were the only guests at the time for most of our stay. Uwe is clearly still working on doing up the place and after a day or so of polite nods and not much conversation, he warmed to us and we had some nice chats about his plans for the place and his travel experiences. We were a little unhappy that at $50 US a night, our stay didn't include breakfast ($3.50 extra) so we went up to the main road and bought croissants and fruit for next to nothing. I think this was noticed and on the last day we were treated to breakfast which to be fair was the best we have had on our travels so far! Fresh croissants, meat and cheese slices, fruit salad, juice, coffee and eggs, we were certainly impressed and it filled us up all day. If you stay there, do make the effort to chat to the staff as they have lots of tips and experience. The guest kitchen was also appreciated and the rooms themselves were well appointed with much needed fans. Not the cheapest place in town but well...
Read moreA fantastic hostel! The hostel itself is beautiful with artwork and gardens that add a lovely touch to the tranquil atmosphere. The rooms are clean, mattresses comfortable and extra fans keep them well ventilated. The staff is on top of the housework and bathrooms and rooms were cleaned daily. And the owner is such a friendly and easy going gentleman who really goes the extra mile to make his guests feel at home. The owner and staff are the definition of hospitality. ||||Only a short (1 minute) walk to a beautiful beach, yet since it is located right on the edge of Olon there is a supermarket and mini super within 4-5 minutes walking, as well as a great panaderia. Also right there at the bus stop to catch the Azul to Montanita for 50 cents, if you are looking for more restaurants or to party. ||Lastly, Uwe...
