Friends traveled from Pto Lopez, Chone and Poza Honda for a weekend of birding various areas around Portoviejo. Platanal was our base, and we had a delightful and relaxed weekend. Only a minute or two drive from the gate was Jardin Botanico, and several more minutes, 'La Tomatera.' Even right behind Platanal is Parque la Rotunda. ||Platanal's rooms are tucked back from the street and there are flowers/tropicals in the garden area - and even shade (!) from a mature mango tree. It is refreshing to find a little garden paradise in the concrete jungle of a city! A Pygmy Owl chattered during the day and night!||With the kitchen only a few steps away from the social area, we prepared food to go and also enjoyed returning at the end of a long day - and staying 'home' instead of leaving to dine nearby. ||The rooms are well appointed and always spotless, thoughtfully designed with a desk area and a place to hang clothes, no reason to put anything on the floor - such attention to detail! There are plenty of options for charging electrical devices - plus mesitas and reading lights by the bed. Hot water (always thank you very much!) and very environment friendly.||In the future I fear of hearing, 'Sorry we're full,' as more people learn of this quiet respite. It is truly a joy to find such a well run, quiet and comforting option in Portoviejo that feels like you're...
Read moreMy experience at the Boutique Hotel has been great. Gabriel is very on top of things alway helping the guest. Small and clean rooms. The shower pressure is low but you get hot water, the design of the bathroom needs some work since its an flush floor concept and it splashes water out of the shower. This is more than a Hostal, i would call it an Urban Boutique Hotel. Nice local rooted design, with plants. The window in the lower rooms a bit dark during the day but if you are using the room at night and need to leave during the day it works well also if you try to sleep in. So far its been a great experience, have been there for a...
Read moreIts a lovely hotel, very clean and the staff were very friendly and so helpful as well. Would highly recommend anyone wanting to stay in Portoviejo to have Platanal as an option. The rooms were well equipped and as this hostel is quite new everything was sparkling clean in the rooms. The only downside for me was that the room prices are quite high, especially when you consider that there is no breakfast included. But overall i had a very enjoyable stay here and as i said i would highly recommend a stay here while...
