My wife Wanda and I stayed four days in the hotel. After exhausting two weeks, exploring the wonders of Ecuador - explosion of volcano Tungurahua, jungle in Napo Wildlife Centre, climbing Cayambe, etc. it was time to relax before return home.||Henning and Napoleon (Napo), the owners of the hotel, have created an absolute paradise on the beach at San Lorenzo.||The supper modern hotel offers dining room and two living rooms, full of books and music. The place is an amazing mixture of Norway, the birthplace of Henning, and Ecuador, the birthplace of Napo. There are eight spotless, modern cottages fully equipped with modern bathrooms and air conditioning.||We enjoyed three fabulous meals daily, prepared by a young chef from Mendoza, Argentina. The mix of Norwegian specials enhanced with Ecuadorian flavour and gaucho spirit, was incredible.||Being a "rainy" season in Ecuador (not on the west coast), Wanda enjoyed a private beach with breathtaking view of the Cabo San Lorenzo. I participated in a day long trip to the Isla de la Plata to watch blue-footed boobies and fishing trip with local fishermen. Napo guided us for an hour-long hike in the Pacoche Park.||The highlight of the stay included romantic dinners on the open terrace with incredible sunsets. In the background, we could hear Chopin's nocturnes and Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite.||El Faro Escandinavo is highly recommend for a perfect relaxation with a six-star luxurious...
Read moreMy wife and I spent a wonderful week at El Faro Escandinavo. We chose to stay there to finish off a one month adventure trip through Peru and Ecuador. It turned out to be a great choice. Both Henning and Napo made us feel at home at their hotel and spoilt us with wonderful food in a classy environment (classical music, paintings everywhere, candles...). We felt as if we were leaving friends at the end of our stay. Even though this hotel might not be the cheapest around - the overall experience certainly was well worth the expense. We are planning to return in one of our next South America trips.||There are various options to spend your time: lazing on the deserted 2 km beach, going on a tropical rainforest excursion led by knowledgeable Napo, visit a family in an unspoilt rural setting to see them weaving Panama hats, climb the 620+ steps up to the light house and see vultures, blue footed boobies and other wild life...||Accommodation consists of eight separate bungalows, all very clean with comfortable beds and nice bathrooms with shower. There is also a nice swimming pool for a quick cool down if you don't fancy the sometimes very powerful waves of the...
Read moreThis place was a perfect end to a hectic trip around Ecuador - it's a small boutique hotel right on the beach, the rooms are small bungalows with bathroom in the grounds. There is a lovely swimming pool and the grounds are beautiful. ||The proprietors, Napoleon and Henning, are the most lovely friendly people who will make you feel very special. The food is first class all served with lovely wine and with a candlelit view of the pacific, one night we were lucky enough to see a school of dolphins swim past. ||The sea was quite rough and we were warned not to swim in it at the time of year we visited but the pool was lovely. The beach was quite deserted. ||We did have a quick look around San Lorenzo but really there is not much to it and we stuck to the hotel and had a trip out to Monte Cristi The hotel provides various excursions at reasonable cost. ||It's a wonderful, relaxing experience and you are made to feel...
