Hostería de Barranco, family owned and operated, is a paradise located outside the small town of Sigsig, Ecuador. Brothers Luis and Pietro have followed their mother's dream of establishing a hotel that provides tranquility and relaxation that restores the soul. There are five rooms available, all connected by a stone path that is lined with fragrant jasmine, bougainvillea, eucalyptus, and other local flora. Each room features its own unique rustic charm and is filled with hand-carved furniture and Ecuadorian artwork. The "honeymoon suite" is a circular building with a thatched, wood and adobe roof that includes a stone fireplace and a sitting area with an en-suite bathroom. Two of the bedrooms are ideal for families and include queen-size beds with twin beds or additional bunk beds. The remaining two are set aside for couples to have a romantic getaway. All have large in-room bathrooms designed with carved stone.||||Hostería de Barranco has a full bar and a kitchen with custom-made typical Ecuadorian cuisine. There is a large pool and a smaller pool to sit in or for the little ones, and a sauna / steam room that will alleviate your troubles. There is a large upstairs entertainment room for parties including a pool table and three seating areas - the views from this room are incredible! On a recent visit to Cuenca, Ecuador we were very fortunate to have a family friend invite us on a road trip to Hosteria El Barranco in Sigsig for a short stay.  This family owned and operated boutique eco-lodge is only about 1.5 hours from Cuenca by car so it was easily accessible, but also felt completely off the beaten path. From the moment we arrived we were warmly greeted by one of the owners, Luis, and from that point on everything was lovely.  The atmosphere is so tranquil that I knew immediately this was the type of place where all of my worries would slip away and I could enjoy a carefree relaxing getaway. The rooms are set up overlooking the courtyard with views of the sparkling swimming pool, fragrant gardens, and mountains in the distance.  The natural architecture of adobe and stone blend into the landscape and carry over into the interior of the rooms which are clean and comfortable with a rustic charm.  In addition to the pool, there's also a eucalyptus sauna, indoor restaurant and full bar with an upstairs room for billiards and parties.  Breakfast is included and other meals prepared on request as well as drinks are available at a moderate cost.  All of the meals were fresh and delicious, they were also easily able to accommodate vegetarian and other dietary needs. As a special treat in the evening we were treated by our friends to a musical dance celebration performed by a local troop of traditional Ecuadorian folk dancers which brought me to tears because it was such an energetic and heartwarming...

Hosteria el Barranco is anyone’s dream vacation! The views of the mountains are breathtaking, and you are surrounded by the beautiful nature of Sigsig. The rooms are of rustic bungalow styles, and blend in perfectly with the landscape while preserving beautiful views of the pool and surrounding rivers. The owners and staff go out of their way to make the stay extra special, and are some the kindest hardworking people. They have even hosted some famous names, like Enrique Bunbury from the Spanish rock band Soda Stereo. When you are there you are treated like a celebrity, and could not imagine a more relaxing place. If you decide to take a minute away from the amazing pool and sauna, you can walk to the market (Mercado) and get fresh fruits, vegetables and hot traditional Ecuadorian food! My trip to Ecuador from NYC was unforgettable, thanks to Hosteria El Barranco. I wilI definitely visit Ecuador and this getaway in the future. Don’t regret missing this...
