Hotel Soberao — Hotel in Tachina

We stayed in one of the garden view rooms of this lovely brand new boutique hotel on the coast of Ecuador, 10 minutes by taxi from the center of Esmeraldas, 3 minutes from the airport. It felt like a lot of care went into creating a very nice and comfortable space off the beaten track. It's located right on the beach and feels private because there aren't any other businesses nearby. The rooms on the second floor where we stayed are spacious. All rooms have air conditioning and full bathrooms with hot water (not always a given in tropical climates!). I also appreciated the low-flow toilets. One thing I especially enjoyed about our room was waking up in the morning to the calming sound of the ocean waves. We went for a walk on the beach for 45 minutes and hardly ran into anyone, which was refreshing since I've been to the popular spots south of Esmeraldas (Atacames, Sua, etc.) which are always very crowded. The Continental breakfast was very good, and we especially liked our lunch of typical food (shrimp in coconut sauce, fried plantains) in the restaurant. The owner, Gustavo, lived in the states for many years and is fluent in English. He is very open to suggestions regarding his new hotel (I didn't have any!) and is just a nice person to talk with. I'm gonna give it a 5. Hotel is nice, has its own private beach, rooms are comfortable and spacious, with a/c and a perfect view of the beach. Pool is small, but come on who is going to be at the pool when you have the beach so close! Breakfast was good. And they have a taxi service just in case you want to get picked up at either the airport or the terminal. I'm sharing my family's experience....

This is the place to stay if you are worried about going into Esmeralda. The place is beautiful and peaceful. The owners where very friendly and made us feel very welcomed. They have a beachfront with hamoks, that you can relax. It's only a 5 minute drive to Esmeralda if you wish to visit. Over all a very good...
