The Wampushkar Hotel was not extremely well rated as I looked around online, but I was only looking for a cheap one night stay before continuing my travels. I can only assume this is because the previous reviews were written before it was under the new ownership and management. A kind younger woman recently purchased the property and was extremely accomodating. My Spanish is not very good but she was wonderful to practice with and also spoke wonderful English. When I arrived I spoke with her for a short while before getting my room which included a wonderful breakfast. The room was quaint and fairly small (single room) but had all the necessary accomodations, and then some. Accomodations included breakfast at the roof top restaurant, a shower and toilet with all the ammenities, a TV, a complimentary bottle of water and the most amazing pillow I have ever had the pleasure of using.||||After I got settled I mentioned to the owner Maria that I was interested in going down to the river. Not only was she willing to show me the best spot to swim, she also insisted on driving me down there herslf as she was headed that way anyways.||||Breakfast was a very simple but delicious meal including eggs, a plantain cake, a wonderful juice and great bread. She also made sure to ask me what time I wanted to eat and if the tradicional breakfast was acceptable or if I would like to request something special.||||I would recommend this Hotel to anyone looking to not spend more money on a hotel than is necessary without sacrificing any comforts. My stay there was extremely enjoyable and I would stay again in a heartbeat.||||Thank you Maria and Wampushkar for a wonderful stay in Zamora and for making my experience an...
Read moreThis small hotel was quite lovely. We received a friendly welcome, a free bottle of water, which is much appreciated, and a quick check-in. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we were even able to chat with the owner for a while that evening. The room and the bathroom were very clean. The room had a nice desk and a comfortable chair. The bed was super comfortable. I noticed that since we arrived later at night, the exterior door was locked and there was a bell to ring for entrance. This made me feel secure that not just anyone could enter the building. After checking in, we walked around town for a little while. The hotel is in a great location, close to the Central Park, a quaint street by with gorgeous lighting, and many bars and restaurants along the river, including a walking bridge with pretty lighting. The breakfast in the morning was delicious with excellent coffee. The only reason I left one star off of the overall rating was because there was no hot water. I'm not sure if that was a problem related to the power cuts happening in Ecuador at this time.. I took a super quick shower to rinse off and I'm used to having only cold water from living in Costa Rica, but it could be a problem for some people. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and will likely stay there again when...
Read moreThis hotel is conveniently located by the Central Park and the river. I was first met with an unfriendly receptionist, but she later warmed up to me...it just took awhile. For the price, I was expecting something a little more. At best, it was an average hotel. The beds are very hard, the internet didn't work half of the time, the door handle/lock didn't work very well, the remote for the TV did not work, the laundry service was $4.50 for a very small amount of clothing, and if you are wanting AC, forget it. I had a tiny fan, and it was hot the day I arrived. I did ask for another room but was told it was full. Of course I don't know for sure, but I didn't see very many customers, so I wonder. I was just in Cuenca the day before and for the same price, I had a very comfortable room, especially the bed! The shower here was nice; it did have hot water. Again, it was okay, but for the price, I expected at least a nice...
