I recently stayed at Hllol Guesthouse in Abu Simbel and overall had a very pleasant experience. The guesthouse itself is beautiful, with a charming Nubian-style design that makes it feel both authentic and welcoming. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and air-conditioned, which is especially important given the hot climate.
The location is excellent — right in the center of Abu Simbel city — making it very convenient to walk around, explore the local area, and easily access the famous temples. The guesthouse also has some lovely open-air areas with gardens and flowers, which create a relaxing atmosphere and add to the charm of the place.
The staff were generally friendly and helpful, though there were moments where the service could have been a bit more attentive. Still, the overall hospitality was good, and I felt well taken care of during my stay.
What I appreciated most was the simplicity and authenticity of the guesthouse. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it doesn’t try to be. Instead, it offers a genuine Nubian experience with a warm, homely feel.
Overall, I would give Hllol Guesthouse 4 stars. It’s a great option for anyone visiting Abu Simbel who is looking for a comfortable stay with character, a central location, and an authentic...
Read moreI really enjoyed staying at this hotel. We had originally booked another but we couldn't gain access for many hours after we arrived as the owner was in Aswan! Where we had just left. The room was spacious, the outdoor areas were relaxing Nubian style and caught the sun nicely, the owner and staff were extremely pleasant and met some other really nice guests. As a downside, it did smell off cigarette smoke a lot though, including the room.
Staying in Abu Simbel was the best choice we made rather than the rush in - rush out before the morning is over, factory-like tourist industry that has built up around it. We had the temples almost to ourselves after the swarms were decanted, and we returned that evening for the light show which, while I was expecting something possibly cheesy, was a really enjoyable experience. Wrap up though if going in January. Only regret, I couldn't muster the energy to get up the next morning to watch the sun rise over the temples which open at 6h. The 3h start from Aswan the day before was just too exhausting. I would have stayed 2 days if I had known more and I think it would have...
Read moreNice quiet little place. Decorated in Nubian style. Room was clean. For the same price you can definitely get much better accommodation in other cities but the price here was comparable to accomodation around abu simbel ( which is expensive). If you need water / drink or some snacks, there is a dairy/ small supermarket a few stores down( turn right from the hotel entrance). The owner is lovely, he seemed super honest, did not overcharge us (we don't know the local cost but what he charged us was 3-4 x less than that around giza and cairo) and even tried to give us back our change....
