We just got back from 2 weeks in Sunrise Alora and it was very disappointing. We have been to Hurghada 5 times, each in a different hotel and this was by far the worst. We’ve not rated any other hotel below 4/5.
First night, we arrived close to midnight, an ok check in was followed by being put in a room for 3 people (family of 5), air con not working and the room was very dated. We were taken to 5 rooms, none of them suitable for a family of 5 and all very poor, nothing like advertised on the website. We settled on a ‘new’ room in the end which wasn’t much better. We were assured it was finished, it wasn’t and we were going to see that repeatedly throughout the holiday. We were all shattered and settled on this room by 1.30am even though it wasn’t suitable
The food is the worst I have experienced in Hurghada by a long way. We are used to AI being repetitive and having to break things up a bit but this was so bad. There were times we struggled to eat here. We went out to eat 6/14 nights as it was so bad
The dining hall isn’t big enough for the hotel. The grounds in general struggle to house everyone but the dining hall is the worst, if you go down between 7-7.30 for food you’ll be fighting for tables. We seen people nearly physically fighting each other over tables a few times. Lots of people stood up with plates of food in their hand and no tables to sit on
The electric to our room went out 12 times!! What made it worst, when raising this with the front desk they couldn’t care less. Each time it was ‘fixed’ and you knew it was going to go off again. Being an electrician by trade it was painful seeing them disconnecting random switches and lights and it still go off again. Our 2 main lights in our room they disconnected so we couldn’t use them and it still didn’t fix it. Everything in our fridge including milk for the baby had to be thrown out multiple times because electric tripped over night or whilst we were out for the day
Water went off to the room two mornings. Couldn’t use the toilet, showers or sinks. Not ideal at all
Came back from a day at the pool at 4-5pm to find our room completely pulled apart and workers in there pulling cables in. No permission was asked. We were told 5 mins to then be sat cramped on the balcony for an hour waiting for them to finish
Get ready to race for your sunbeds. We had to go down for 7.30am to even have a chance to get some beds
Very poor workmanship and condition of the buildings. The amount of cracked tiles around the places, poor building works etc. The first room we were put in, had a large cracked tile right outside the door which was also not fixed in place. That was right outside a room door so you can imagine the general hotel. The fixings were hanging off in the room and the shower head actually fell down and hit one of the kids whilst showering
Night time entertainment is poor and held in a terrible place. Feels like a temporary setup by the beach, there’s not enough room for everyone to sit so people drag sunbeds to sit on or just leave it. Also lots getting bit by mosquitoes because of this
Drinks are pretty poor. You see the nice cocktails online but around the resort they are nothing like that. You can see why their social media is so much better than it is, the hotel setup cocktails and food and were going round trying to grab photos of people. You didn’t see this any other time than when they had a camera in their hand
The one positive was Ahmed and his team in the restaurant who were absolutely brilliant. They were exactly what we have experienced everywhere else. We tipped them more than anyone else and not once did we feel like they were going out of their way just for a tip. They worked extremely hard and were a credit to the hotel
It’s such a shame to leave this review because we had high hopes for this hotel before going. It does have potential to be a good hotel but it’s so far from it, it’s unbelievable. We would return to the 4 hotels we have previously stayed at. We would never return to this hotel and...
Read moreLet me start with the check-in. At the reception, we were warmly welcomed by the staff and offered a glass of orange juice — a nice start. Since we arrived with friends, we were given rooms next to each other — definitely a plus. However, the condition of the rooms shocked us: dirty windows, dusty surfaces, and an overall feeling of neglect. Although we paid extra to the tour operator for upgraded rooms with a sea view, we were placed in rooms overlooking the inner pool. After complaining, we were moved one floor down, but the condition of the new rooms was hardly any better. When I asked why we didn’t get the promised sea view, the answer was: “You have to pay an extra 20 euros per day.” Outrageous.
There weren’t enough beds in the room — each family had a 7-year-old child, and the first night we had to sleep all three in one bed. The next day, thanks to animator Nastya (huge thanks to her!), we were brought extra beds. Room cleaning was very poor — it felt like the cleaner simply couldn’t manage. All the mirrors and windows were dirty, and bathroom supplies were never restocked: one shower cap for everyone — definitely not the level of a good hotel.
The hotel grounds were neat and compact, with plenty of greenery, pools, and activities. However, the water park left a bad impression: unsafe mats for sliding — my husband hurt his elbows, and I bruised my legs. The children’s slides were in bad condition with visible cracks — too dangerous to let kids play.
The beach had plenty of loungers and large towels. But the entrance to the sea was rocky, the bottom was muddy, and there were no fish at all. The sea was very shallow, especially during low tide. Overall, we didn’t enjoy the beach experience.
The food was tasty, especially the desserts — the variety was amazing! Special praise for the mango ice cream at the snack bar and the delicious coffee from the coffee machines. However, the selection of fish, chicken, and salads was poor, and the dishes repeated daily — we got bored quickly.
The animation team was excellent! They worked hard and put on shows every night. Huge thanks to Yulia from the kids’ club — the children adored her! Nastya also did a great job, always checking in to make sure everything was okay. The bartenders at the lobby bar were fantastic — friendly, smiling, and skilled at making great cocktails. Special thanks to bartender Ibrahim — very kind and attentive.
Alcohol is served from 10:00 to 24:00. Wi-Fi worked well in the lobby (although sometimes it would cut out), but there was no signal at all near the snack bar.
It was unpleasant to see senior hotel staff yelling at bartenders in front of guests. We felt sorry for the staff. And we were shocked when, at midnight (00:00!), someone started drilling and doing renovations on the 4th floor — with the already poor sound insulation, that was completely unacceptable.
Overall, the hotel has a lot of potential and many areas to improve. Despite the issues, we still enjoyed our vacation and hope the hotel will soon reach the full level of a true...
Read moreSummary: Very good value for money, kids (and adults) get to enjoy aquapark and the friendly staff treatment. Also for the hospitality, facilities and treatment you get.
Highly recommended, Thanks Mr. Mahmod Sultan and all the staff especially the animation team.
For some in-Depth review, read the following:
What i liked was:
Hospitality of the staff, i got contacted by Mr. Mahmod sultan before arrival to help facilitate my stay and asked me if i have any occasions and when iam arriving to get my room ready on time.
Aqua park is wonderful for adults and kids, No wait time.
There was a variety of food in the restaurant.
The animation team was exceptional in their performance.
All bars staff are friendly and good even under pressure (many guests and during parties).
Snack bars from 12-5 pm.
Pool is always clean and well maintained.
What needs improvement:
The check-in took 1.5 hour more than the check in time (i arrived at 11:30 am and check in open from 2 pm, I entered the room around 3:30 pm).
The food is repeated almost every day (there was variety but same food).
The massage facility is ok not what i expected.
Renovation ongoing in the hotel (but not impacting sleep).
Rooms a bit old (broken door handles, shower not fixed). However, it's very clean.
Limited availability of umbrellas on the pool and seating area (you have to wait for 10-15 minutes until they get you umbrella from other pools) especially during peak guest availability on the pools. == Management has to arrange before hand the number of umbrellas on standby to accomodate the guest on the hotel.
Sea is not that good especially if you want to snorkel (i suggest to build a bridge to a good snorkel area 300-400 metres inside the sea) or arrange an occuring trip by boat (every 2 / 3 hours) for the guests willing to sea fishes, as this will help easen the load on Aqua park and other facilities and make the guests enjoy more the sea activities.
Special restaurents (Gamila, Asian and italian) are always booked since you have to book one day before, i suggest to put a waiting list and contact the guest who reserved to confirm their...
