Eatabe review Where to begin… This was a very interesting four nights we spent at the Eatabe hotel in Luxor. We should start off by saying we visited late July, which is definitely the lower season for this area as temperatures are very hot. The hotel is undergoing some renovations in the lobby area at the moment so some of the aforementioned restaurants and bars were not available.
Pros: The Hotel was very clean. We did not feel uncomfortable with the cleanliness at any time. The rooms are dated, but still in very good condition and well-maintained. The pool is great and a big selling feature for this hotel. One of the concierges Wael consistently goes above and beyond, and should be commended for his efforts. By far the best staff member we encountered at this hotel. The location was good and the hotel felt safe.
Cons: The moment we walked into the hotel, arriving from the airport, before even checking in, a man approached us with pamphlets speaking about the massage services offered at the hotel spa. We politely declined and took his pamphlet and went to check in. Within about an hour of arriving in our room, we get a phone call from this man on our hotel room phone, once again pressuring us to come to the spa for one of the massages. I found this was quite inappropriate to cold-call guests in their room. Over the span of the next four days of our stay, we were approached by this man approximately 10 more times when visiting the lobby and pool area. Every time, there seemed to be some gimmick or discount (but these seemed to change every day). Every time, we politely declined. I found this was very pushy and inappropriate to be taking place within the walls of an established hotel.
The breakfast. Our room did not include breakfast, which we knew before arriving. We figured we would just go down the first morning and pay for the breakfast buffet. Upon entering the buffet, our room number was checked on a sheet to be sure we were staying in the hotel and we were told it was 250 Egyptian pounds per person. This felt like a lot to me given then offering, but we paid anyway (along with a 100 pound tip). The breakfast was decent with a large selection the day we visited. We then went to the front desk later just to check on the price of the breakfast and were told it was 180 Egyptian pounds for guests. We then showed them the receipt that we were charged 250 pounds per person. This clearly embarrassed the staff as we had caught them in a scam. The restaurant manager came downstairs and eventually refunded us the difference. Overall, it was just a very awkward and uncomfortable experience. We then came to find out, that based on a placard fixed in our room behind the door, the breakfast is actually only supposed to be 150 pounds per person for guests. Even with the “correction” from the front desk, we were STILL overcharged. We did not pursue this any further, because for the sake of 30 pounds each, it not feel worth creating a large issue. I just wanted this experience to be heard, because I feel like this is extremely unprofessional, and the price of the breakfast needs to be sorted out and explained to guests upon arrival.
The wifi. Wifi extremely slow in room and not great in the lobby.
We really recommend visiting Luxor. It was a...
Read moreA little worried when we arrived (hubby and I traveled together). When we walked into the lobby there were a bunch of teenage kids making a lot of noise, talking, laughing, etc. It was after 10:00 at night so we thought this was strange. Our room had a broken glass balcony, part of the carpet was pulled up and could be easily tripped over. The phone in the room was filthy. There was mold in the bathroom at the floor and shower. Just didn't look very clean at all. I have pictures I will post. We were able to see the pyramid in the far distance but looking out our balcony we saw a lot of trash just across from the hotel. It was extremely noisy from the constant horns beeping. Trust me, "constant" is not an exaggeration! Breakfast was not very good but I guess since I've never been to Egypt or had Egyptian food maybe it's just what they eat. Not appetizing to us though. The orange juice was more like a watered down orange drink. There was not an outside pool as it shows in the picture. There was an indoor pool but it was covered up and the area was made into something like a wedding area. We booked this trip through Travel Zoo and Travel-O-Deal so they chose the hotel. We stayed there a total of 5 nights I believe and it was okay but when they say it's a 4 star hotel keep in mind that 4 stars in Egypt is not the same as 4 stars in the U.S. In the U.S. it would have been considered more of a 1 star in my opinion. There were guards at the...
Read moreThe worst three days of my life. Execution house at one's own will )) To say that the room was dirty is an understatement: there was old dust everywhere, hair in the bed and on the floor, the ceiling in the bathroom was black with mold, the toilet was covered in dried stains from the previous guests, and the list goes on and on. With "breakfast included", they will always try to cheat you: in the restaurant, a cute girl, smiling, will ask you to pay an additional 220 pounds for the food, emphasizing that it is she who should pay. And when you go to the reception to sort it out, they pretend that it's a misunderstanding and that they will call the restaurant now and inform )) Designed for fools. An old, stale scheme. Every night in the hall on the first floor, music blared, even so that the vibrations went through the walls. You will not be able to sleep. At the reception, the air conditioners work extremely poorly, the stuffiness is unbelievable. In addition, I was bitten by some insects in bed, most likely bed bugs. Avoid this hotel if you want to save your health and nerves. It is a pity that the administration does not care about the reputation...
