IOS Village — Hotel in Matruh

We booked two rooms for two nights for around 8000 LE each per night, to attend a wedding nearby. Both rooms were tiny, and overlooked basically a garbage dump. The bathroom was ridiculously small, including the shower stall, and not very clean. The glass shower stall was not properly installed and kept getting stuck. My son found long hairs on his towel and a previous customer's underwear hanging on the bathroom hooks. ||Each room does have an electric kettle, tea-bags, around 3 sugar packets and two small paper cups. There is also a mini-fridge and two small bottles of water.||The included breakfast consists of a platter of eggs, cheese, one tiny packet each of jam and honey, slices of bread, and two breakfast pastries served in a stiflingly hot outdoor corridor consisting of four tables pushed against the wall of one of the buildings, with not even a fan to relieve the heat and discourage the flies. A nearby roof is used to store piles of old and broken furniture and hotel equipment, visible from the "breakfast corridor". No real coffee, just Nescafe or tea, again served in paper cups. No juice, only water. There is also no room service. ||The staff is indifferent, irresponsible and unprofessional, and responds to criticism by blaming other customers (for example, for the lack of cleanliness of the rooms, or the stuck glass shower door). As we were checking out, when we complained to the actual manager about the quality of the accommodations, he explained to us that we should have booked more expensive suites instead!!||There is no access to the beach, although there is a swimming pool that looked clean, but not very inviting as there were no visible staff or amenities available. It was also hard to find, because the "village" has almost no signs indicating how to locate anything.||The whole thing felt kind of insulting. The only positive thing was the lovely landscaping of the restaurants area, which consists of independent franchises which rent the location from the hotel. It’s very underwhelming!||Ordered from Foambe Cheri corn and salad and while starting with salad assuming chicken that’s grilled would taste as good as it looked! And body was I wrong, salad was not good despite good dressing, ||Chicken tasted like rubber with outer surface overcooked and the meat itself just tasteless!||||Retuned like 90+% of the chicken and more than half the salad, and stayed hungry and disappointed because the place itself has a very nice ambiance to it but I was very hungry!||||On our way out Lo and behold someone intercepted us as if caught red handed not “Not paying for the chicken and salad you are!!!!” And try as I might but couldn’t convince them to get me to talk to a manager and they refused! Not even the chef ||Actually he said the chef sent me to you to charge you!!||||And offered to give e the chicken for free if I paid for the salad! This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel. The staff is completely unprofessional and clearly untrained. A room service guy opened the bathroom door while I was in the shower! The main door was locked, and the sound of running water should have made it obvious that someone was inside, yet he still barged in. How does something like this even happen? Absolutely unacceptable and beyond disturbing. When I complained, the manager was defending at first then he told me he was fired, though I have no way of knowing if that’s true. But honestly, this should never happen at any hotel, let alone one that’s supposedly high-end and quite expensive.
