At the attention of:|Hussein - Barakuda Diving Manager|In carbon copy Ursula Wolf – Room Division Manager Lahami Bay|In carbon copy Fausto Ragazzoni (Robintur Representative)||Dear sirs|With this email we would like to inform you about the events that happened on April 8th, 2023 during our boat trip on Ocean Bird 4 boat to Sataya organized by Barakuda Diving, during our stay in Lahamy Bay beach resort.|After a beautiful experience watching and swimming with dolphins, we came back to the main boat. We were supposed to be back at the resort at 5.00 PM, but we were told that there was a problem with the engine starter.|Crew on the boat reassured us that a new spare part was arriving with a fast boat from the coast.|At about 6.30 PM the part arrived, but it was not the proper one and did not work. Only then the boat crew decided to ask for support to a near boat (Infinity Diving Safari boat). The engine starter from the Infinity boat finally worked and at about 8.00PM the engine started again.|The crew gave back the engine starter to the owner and decided to go back from Sataya reef to the resort. We relied on the engine not stalling. What could have happened if the engine stopped during the trip, in complete darkness? It was completely dark outside and inside the boat: no light was working in the boat. The only lights were provided by mobile phones.||We asked about safety equipment on board, and we discovered that:|· The backup engine starter was not working.|· The boat is not designed for night trips.|· Only three life jackets were available (we were 21 guests with 7 children)|· Neither radio nor satellite phone was onboard. All the communications were done by mobile phone.|· No electric generator was available on the boat. It would have been useful to have lights inside the boat or recharge mobile phones.|· No navigation lights were available on the boat. We were completely in the darkness.|· No Echo sounder to avoid reef during night.|· No GPS, compass or chartplotter on the boat: The only navigation system was an app on crew mobile phones.|· No nautical flares.|· No fire fighting equipment.| |We would expect that buying a tour in Red Sea with a well named tour operator as Francorosso/Alpitour, all the facilities and services offered should be checked and guaranteed and in line with required safety standards. Diving Center is one of the most important attractions and it’s in the tour operator responsibility to monitor its reliability and safety.| |Summarizing, after a failure of a ship component, we ended up in a very dangerous situation.|With this email we ask:|· Which actions are you planning to avoid those situations in the future|· Being notified about progress to be sure that tourists who will decide to take this excursion in the future will be in a situation of complete safety|· We expect Francorosso to take position and check the real status of the boats (the same used also for diving) and to make pressure to preserve guests safety.|· We also expect that Lahami Bay Resort checks on diving center safety standards, even if it belongs to a different owner.| |If we do not have rapid and objective feedback that the necessary actions have been taken to ensure the safety of future tourists, we may take steps to inform as many people as possible of the risks they run if they decide to come to Lahami Bay and take the excursion to Sataya with the boats of Barakuda Diving.||Thank you and best regards,| |Leonardo Avella, Chiara Corradi (Booking Number FR 1636808)|Alessandro Lupi, Giulia Girotti (Booking Number FR 1673402)|Alessandro Schiavi, Lara Bacilieri (Booking...

Read moreWe (Couple, 52, AOW) stayed one week at Lahami Bay, our first trip to Egypt.||Even though our expectations weren't high we still felt underwhelmed overall with the resort, and also the diving.||||The good: The Hotel Gardens and overall appeal, the buildings look nice und the gardens are lush and overall well maintained with a few exceptions||||The bad: Food and Restaurant: The food ranged from not good to ok, the hotel clearly aims at the type of guest who values quantity over quality. Huge appetizer buffet basically used the left overs, while it looked like a lot, it was a lot of the same stuff, not tasty, not special. Less would be more here... There were a few items we stuck to throughout our stay. Best food was during the 1 Egyptian Buffet night and the stuff served on the excursion boat. ||||The inside of the restaurant has the feel of a cantine and it smells terrible,||||Also the dive operation was not what we expected, no help with anything, no communication, the daily track to the Marina was annying, the jetty was outright dangerous to cross. No latter for the Zodiac, the Egyptian Crew saw a lot of Boobs during the Dolphin Excursion. Dive sites ok but not wow, I guess it really depends on what you have seen so far. Corals were colorful but fish was limited to only very small fish dartin in and out of the corals, plus some blue dotted stingrays. If you have seen only dive sites in Europe than this is heaven, if you know Indonesien dive sites or other top notch dive destination, Egypt is underwhelming.||||Dive Crew: not motivated and arogant in parts, ||Despite our 10 dive pre-paid package we stopped after 4 dives. ||Best experience was the Dolphin excursion, unfortunately it's kind of a tourist trap with approx. 8 boats à12 pax chasing the Dolphins and finning towards them (and by that chasing them away). We were lucky to be in the front row twice and got some great shots...||||Staff: overall very disappointing, they don't smile, don't communicate properly and seem unmotivated. Two exceptions: Mahmut who cleaned our room and the gentlemen who was serving us at the lunch restaurant (the only waiter with glasses, unfortunately forgot the name).||||Room: we booked the highest room category (Komfort zimmer), which was spacious but dated. The bathtub shower door was too big and therefore did not close flat but stuck into the standing area on the bathtub. Shower head adjuster broken. Shower water was pooling on the ledge surrounding the bathtub, which when dried left a nasty white layer of dried shower gel on it. Bathtub very high, not suitable for elderly people to get in and out of....||||Communication: probably the weekest part, Nothing was communicated, how to do things, where to find things, if there was communication it was clumsy and had to be squeezed out of the people. It may be a general mentality issue, not sure... .||||Area: Hamata and the overall southern area is the better one compared to Marsa Alam. In the 2.5 hours transfer we could see that the further north you get the uglier it gets, the last hour to the airport you basically drive through one contruction site, everything is dug up, no vegetation, ugly, ugly, ugly.||||The South has lovely lagoons, mangrove coves and dunes, unfortunately everything is heavily littered and therefore also on the ugly side. A dead camel was laying right next to the road, nobody cared....||||For us it was the first and last time to come to Egypt for Diving, it's cheap but not worth the money.||||If you are set on Egypt than Lahami is probably the best bet. The new Airport in Berenice is opening in a few months and from there it's only 30 min to the resort. An adjacent second big resort right next to lahami marina is supposed to open in 2 months as well, they will share the marina so expect things to get busy.||||Guests: 60-70 % Italian, 30 % Germans and a handfull of Swiss/Austrians. Entertainment is only in Italian and the staff only speaks Italian except for a few standard words in german.||||For those on a budget who do not mind flying a little longer I would recommend Indonesia (e.g. North Sulawesi, Bali), you get more diversity and truely lovely and committed locals who will go out of there way to make...
