Steigenberger Resort Alaya Marsa Alam — Hotel in Red Sea

We’ve spent 16 nights in Steigenberger Alaya and we had a great vacation. The hotel facility is truly 5 Stars. Everything is clean and in a good shape. Our room was very clean and tidy. The bed was pleasant, and you can select from different types of pillows if needed. From room 1224 we’ve had a great view on the pool and the beach. The minibar is fully included in AI (except snacks) and the people filling it up ask you for your preferences in terms of drinks respectively how they should fill the minibar. The Sultana main restaurant manages the balancing act between European and Arabic cusine very good. Everybody can select from a broad buffet with great quality and if you have special wishes, just talk to one of the cooks and they will prepare individual food for you (I’m allergic on peanuts and since the Swiss Role is with peanuts, the cooks made two rolls for me without peanuts). The special restaurants like Basilico, Roka, Mashawi and Zaytoun are almost mandatory to visit. Both red- and white housewine as well as the sparkling wine were surprisingly good. The cocktails tasted great as well. For breakfast, you visit the main restaurant and for lunch you can chose between buffet in the main restaurant and ala card either in the Beach Bar or in Negma Bar. For lunch, we’ve either been to Negma or Beach Bar, and we can highly recommend the beef medallion, the superfood salad as well as the beef shawarma. Also, you need to taste the ice cream which is great. Also worth to mention is the gym which is equipped with newest Techno-Gym machines. With Mohammed Abd El Karim the Gym has also a qualified trainer and physiotherapist, who will not only help you with the machines and some tips but also can give you an osteopathic treatment in case you have problems. My girlfriend has been treated by him for 45 minutes due to urgent problems with the upper back and she was well again after the treatment. The beach directly at the hotel is not so good for swimming since there is a reef but you can access the water at some spots. The staff at the beach ensures the protection of nature by preventing people from standing on the corals. There is a boardwalk to access the water behind the reef for people who want to do snorkeling or diving. In addition to that, the beach areas from the other hotels can be used which provide a flat sandy beach. Guests at the beach can get drinks from the Beach Bar and somebody comes on a frequent basis and asks you for drinks. The pool area is large and provides sufficient space to ensure privacy. Here somebody from the Beach Bar or Negma Bar comes as well on a frequent basis to serve you drinks. What we really want to underline is our great experience with the service staff. All people do a great job and ensure everybody’s full satisfaction. The staff is highly attentive and courteous, and it is to be hoped that the management appreciates the great work. Steigenberger Resort is the place where your wishes come true. It's like heaven on Earth. The stunning view every time you wake up, the beauty of the whole complex so well taken care! The room service made my day every time I walked in. The creativity of our houseman Ahmed was endless. He was always there when you need him. Just the right time. Impressive. Thanks to Sanya for making the bread so good. With love, passion and smile. I highly recommend to use the services of Mr. Mohamed Ali the physiotherapist working in the fitness center. He saved my lower back pain within 2 days. Because of him I could enjoy my stay to the fullest! He also helps you to create a programme you can follow at home. Friendly and professional. If you want to unwind go to the Mivida SPA. Natalia will help you to choose the right Massage offering water or tea. Choosing the egyptian aromatherapy massage I felt like back in time. It relaxed me so much that I bought few essential oils from their own production. Everything home-made and original. The evening programme was fantastic, especially two russian twins singing and dancing with Susu was fun. This girl is so full of energy and can motivate anyone to dance. Of course like in life there is not only the bright side and there were few things we didn't like. First let the waiters talk to you. We've been in many high-class also michellin restaurants and the waiters were allowed to talk to their customers for longer than 5 minutes for sure even though we came every day. That's normal, you need to fulfill the needs of your customers and if he desire a small talk and attention, give it to him. There was a waiter who gave me such a good feeling for the first few days. Then I recognized change in his mood, he was even ignoring. When we were asking for him. Someone must have been talking to him, he wasn't there and than he came evidently sad. This was sad for me as well. This restaurant never ever gave me the same pleasure of being there. Pitty...please work on it to always give the guests the best feeling. Details are important. Also the steak meat with a strange sauce and salty Tiramisu in your italian restaurant should have been change. We live in Italy and there is no salty Tiramisu and a beef Steaks are served without a sauce. This was more egyptian kitchen. If you want an authentic experience, and this is what the people expect when they go to italian restaurant, make a trip to Italy and get more authentic. We plan to return so I hope for this things to change. I’m a few days into my stay at Steigenberger Alaya and here’s how I honestly feel so far:

Pluses (+):

• Food: Honestly the best food I’ve ever had in Egypt. Every meal has been fresh, super tasty, and way above the usual all-inclusive standard. The à la carte restaurants are great too – Zaytoun was outstanding, and I’ll definitely be trying Basiliko as well before I leave. The Asian one wasn’t really my thing, but that’s just personal taste.

• Rooms: My room is massive. Like, really massive. And spotless every single day – the housekeeping team is doing an amazing job here.

• Staff: Everyone is super friendly and helpful. The people at reception especially – whatever you need, they sort it out for you straight away.

• Location & atmosphere: Compared to the Steigenberger Coraya where I stayed last year, the Alaya feels like a proper 5-star luxury resort. Coraya honestly feels like a 4-star place in comparison – the difference in vibe and exclusivity is huge.

• Cleanliness: This is hands-down the cleanest hotel I’ve ever been to. Inside, outside, the gardens… everything looks perfect.

Minuses (–):

• Drink service at the sunbeds: Especially at the beach, waiting 30–60 minutes for a drink – or sometimes not getting one at all – is simply unacceptable for a 5-star resort in this price range. I ended up bringing my own drinks from the room because otherwise you could be sitting there forever. That should never happen in a luxury hotel.

• Activities info: We had a short tour when we arrived, but nobody bothered to show us where the activity board was. It actually took me four days – and another guest – to even find it. For a resort in this price class, basic communication like that should be flawless from day one.

• Spa & entertainment team: This was honestly the most disappointing part. I don’t expect to be chased around, but some guests were approached daily about massages or activities, while I wasn’t asked even once. Maybe they thought I was too young… or broke? Who knows. But if you pay for a luxury stay, you shouldn’t have to hunt down basic information yourself – it really takes away from the experience.

Overall: The positive aspects massively outweigh the negatives, and I would come back because the food, the staff, the atmosphere, and the cleanliness are truly outstanding. But for the price you pay here, you simply expect everything to be perfect. Those few issues turned what could have been a perfect holiday into an almost perfect one.
