My husband and I spent ten days at Sunrise Anjum Resort and what a holiday it was! To be honest, I have read some of the negative reviews and I do feel I need to express what my experience was.||The Sea|We spent every single day on the beach, sunbathing, swimming, walking and relaxing. There were plenty of sun loungers with partitions available no matter what time people arrived at the beach. Obviously, there were some people (mostly Italians) who always managed to get sun loungers in the first row (even though they appeared around 10am the earliest) but that did not worry us. |You can enter the sea either from the pier or you can just go from the beach. There is a bar at the beach, showers and toilets. You can get towels from a towel hut right on the beach.||The Pool(s)|Not a clue - we are not pool people as we go on a holiday because we love the sea. From what I observed - there were approximately 4 pools, if not more. A swim-up bar was at the main pool. And again, plenty of sun loungers. ||The Food|Being vegan means that sometimes it is necessary to check with chefs what might contain milk or eggs (if there is no information on ingredients used in the dish) but that was not the case here. There was a card next to each dish saying what allergens the dish contains. We love eating healthy and that's why we were really satisfied with the food options. There were amazing choices of salads, vegetables, fresh fruit, stews with okra or other veggies, beans, falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, tahini...you name it! An endless selection of bread, rolls, pastries, pizza, fish and meat, pasta, sweet stuff (oh my god, too much in my opinion, most people left this place being on the verge of becoming obese), ice cream, 20 types of honey and jam, peanut butter, Nutella...let's stop there as you might see already what my point is. TOO MUCH FOOD every day! Mind you, I described the main restaurant only. There was no need for us to book the other ones as we were more than happy to use the main one only.||Drinks|Simply scan the QR code (each bar has got one) to see what cocktails, moctails, coffee and soft drinks are available - there were some really good ones! We loved iced coffee (I think it was called Mamlouk Iced Coffee, which would easily cost £6 at any Starbucks) so go ahead and try it! Alpro milks (oat, soy, coconut, almond) were available, too, which was amazing as we could have coffee with oat milk for breakfast. Epic, innit? ||The Hotel|I mean...it is a waste of time to describe it. Check the pictures on TripAdvisor or the hotel's website and that is what this place really looks like. Boho style and off white colour dominate the whole resort. The furnishings are beautifully chosen to give you that relaxing, calm vibe. |The reception looks like the Pantheon so at times you might think you are in Rome. |Our room was spacious, airy and clean. And the bathroom! Mama Mia! Just gorgeous...||The People|See I didn't write staff since they were not staff to us but hard working people who wanted to make our stay incredible. Everyone was friendly and helpful (OK maybe there was one person that didn't smile back at us but just one out of maybe a thousand? Besides, we are just people, aren't we?)|Kudos to all - thank you for welcoming us with such friendliness and allowing us to spend time in your magnificent country.|People I'd like to point out for their hard work and amazing attitude are:||Beach Bar - HUGE thanks to Walid, Karim and Hussein - these guys are amazing, hard working and we shall miss them loads|Latitude Bar - Amar and Mohhamed (the boss who says 'jezis marja' when he drops something by mistake), all boys who work there really, especially A. Alien, Harby and many more|Main Restaurant - everyone! I don't remember their names but oh boy they are professionals, they work hard and manage to deal with rude people with such ease it amazes me. A BIG, BIG thank you to Mustafa Labib as well as Mohamed|Gym - thank you Baha'a, you've been wonderful and we'll defo miss your smile|All Cleaners - especially Ibrahim who cleaned our room||Many thanks to Miriam, Lucia and Anna - czech animation team for being friendly, and always willing to help. Thanks to Mustafa - his Czech is incredible!||For those reading my review thinking 'Surely it wasn't such a heaven, surely there must have been some faults' - yeah, you are right as I never said the hotel was perfect. No hotel is, it's up to you to make the most of it! So as Wham sing 'Pack your bags and leave tonight, don't take your time, gotta move your feet don't you miss the flight!' George must have had this...
Read moreWe traveled to Sunrise Anjum Resort as a group of six, booking two rooms—one for the grandmothers with one of our kids, and another for me, my wife, and our baby. Having visited Egypt five times before, including multiple stays at Sunrise Arabian Beach Resort, we had high expectations, especially given the hotel’s high rating. Unfortunately, while there were a few positives, our overall experience was deeply disappointing due to poor service, misleading policies, and a general lack of hospitality.
Positives:
Excellent Spa & Massage: Both my wife and I were very happy with the massage services. The quality was top-notch and one of the highlights of our stay.
Good Food Quality: The food was quite good for Egypt. While the selection was more limited compared to Rixos, the taste was better than most resorts. Room Cleaning: Housekeeping did a thorough job, and the rooms were always well-maintained.
Cocktails Were Mostly Okay: While inconsistent in quality, the cocktails were generally decent, especially considering the use of local alcohol.
Negatives:
🚫 Terrible Sound Insulation: Our room had an adjoining door to another room, and the soundproofing was nonexistent. We could hear everything from our neighbors - conversations, alarms, etc. One night, the entertainment volume was increased at 22:30, waking our entire block, including our toddler.
🚫 Rude & Unhelpful Reception Staff: • The receptionist, Said, was especially unprofessional. At check-in, he mocked us for not printing our voucher instead of trying to assist. • When I complained about the lack of soundproofing, he asked for my room number three times, instead of simply writing it down - yet nothing was done. • At checkout, both Said and a female receptionist stopped us to demand proof that we returned our towels and key cards. Even after their colleague confirmed we had, they didn’t apologize and just walked away.
🚫 Limited Entertainment for Kids: • There were almost no activities for children or babies, which is shocking for a resort of this size.
🚫 Terrible Drink Service in the Main Restaurant: • It regularly took 20–30 minutes to receive simple drink orders like water or juice. • The restaurant had only one drink trolley, which would disappear for refills, often returning after we had finished our meal.
🚫 Inconsistent Cocktails: • Cocktail quality varied wildly depending on who made them. Given the high rating of the hotel, we expected more consistency.
🚫 Dead Coral Reef: • One of the biggest disappointments was the almost completely dead reef, with very few fish. If you’re expecting good snorkeling, this is not the place.
🚫 Misleading Room Availability & Upgrades: • Upon check-in, we found out our rooms were on the second floor without an elevator—a significant inconvenience with a baby and stroller. There was also no designated space to leave the stroller downstairs. • When we asked for a room change, we were told the hotel was fully booked—but this was clearly false, as several blocks were visibly empty. • We later checked prices and saw that upgrading to a swim-up room (without an adjoining door) cost only €400 extra for the entire stay on TUI and Booking.com. However, the hotel demanded €70 per person per night, more than double the online price. Their response? “You’re already here, that rate is for new guests.” This felt like a scam. • Even worse, on the evening before our last full day, we were suddenly offered the upgrade at 50% off. But by then, it was completely pointless, since we would have only one night left before leaving early in the morning.
🚫 Scam-Like Pricing for Upgrades & Extras: • The room upgrade pricing was absurd—we already discussed how they tried to charge double the actual online price. • Being offered an upgrade at 50% off on the last night felt like a bad joke. • We were charged €3 for a basic tea in the hookah bar.
Would I return to this hotel?
Absolutely not. After this experience, I seriously doubt I will stay at any Sunrise...
Read moreWe have just returned from a stay at Sunrise Anjum Resort, and I can confidently say that it is the best hotel I have ever visited in Egypt.
Hotel & Accommodation The resort is new, modern, beautifully designed, and gives off a very luxurious feel. One of its biggest advantages is that it’s not overly large – everything is within a short walking distance, whether you’re heading to the pool, the beach, or one of the restaurants. Despite its smaller size, the hotel never feels cramped or crowded. In fact, one of the highlights is how peaceful it feels. There were no long lines, no overcrowded areas, and the pools were never packed with people – a huge plus compared to many other resorts in Egypt. The rooms are spacious, stylish, and spotless, cleaned daily with fresh towels and linens. The minibar is restocked every day and includes water, soft drinks (Sprite, Coca-Cola, tonic), juice, and even beer – all part of the all-inclusive package.
Pools The resort offers four pools, each with a different atmosphere: • The upper pool, located near the reception, is quieter and features more comfortable padded loungers. Next to it is a small infinity pool, which quickly became our favorite spot thanks to its stunning views and tranquil setting. However, there are only a few loungers here, so you need to get up early to secure a place. • There is also an adults-only pool located further down, which we were eager to try. Unfortunately, its pool bar was closed during the entire week of our stay, which was quite disappointing – it felt like a missed opportunity, as adults would certainly appreciate a bar in this quiet zone. • The largest pool, closest to the beach, comes with an island swim-up bar. We barely spent time there, as it was the noisiest pool with entertainment and animation activities throughout the day – fun for some, but not ideal if you’re looking for peace and relaxation.
Food & Restaurants The food was one of the highlights of the entire stay. Guests can dine either in the main buffet restaurant or in two à la carte restaurants. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and of high quality, resembling the taste and presentation of European hotels more than typical Egyptian resorts. While some hotels in Egypt offer a wider variety of dishes, the flavor often feels repetitive. Here, every dish tasted excellent and well-prepared. Overall, this was the best all-inclusive dining experience we have had in Egypt – truly outstanding.
Service This is where the resort had some room for improvement. The service quality varied depending on the staff members. At the reception and from the housekeeping team, we experienced consistently friendly and helpful service. However, the staff at the Island Pool Bar often seemed inattentive, even when it wasn’t busy. At times, it felt as though serving us was an inconvenience, and we noticed that some guests were given priority over others. On the other hand, the Splash Bar near the upper pool offered a much better experience. The bartenders were friendly, the drinks were excellent, and service was prompt – often delivered straight to our loungers. As for the animation team and the typical vendors offering excursions or spa treatments, they were a bit pushy during the first day but eventually became less intrusive.
Overall Impression Overall, Sunrise Anjum Resort exceeded our expectations. Among Egyptian resorts, this one stands out as the very best we have visited. It combines luxury, tranquility, and style with excellent dining and generally good service. While there is still room for improvement in certain areas, particularly at the pool bars, the positives far outweigh the negatives.
If you are looking for a luxurious yet reasonably priced resort in Egypt, with fantastic food, well-designed facilities, and a relaxing atmosphere, Sunrise Anjum Resort is an excellent choice. We highly...
