We just did a one-night stay at Lenca and could not be happier. We were in rooms 18 & 19, up at the top of the property. This is a basic rural mountain lodge. Super relaxing and a great place to disconnect.||||The rooms are basic, but are super clean. The ceiling fan provided sufficient air movement to sleep comfortably, especially as it cooled off in the late evening. The bathrooms are well-done with good showers (good pressure and hot water) and enough shelf space to put your things. They use liquid soap dispensers in the shower and at the sink.||||No TV or WiFi in the rooms (though plenty of Claro 3G signal). Planning for this, we sat out on the patio outside the room and played UNO and Monopoly Deal with the kids after supper. It was super pleasant - it was not buggy, but bug spray made us more confident. (Seriously, bring playing cards, or a traveler's style board game - or lay in the hammocks and read.)||||The restaurant was quite good. For supper, around the table we had steaks, the Veracruz chicken, and the beef tacos (meat/veggie mix was more like fajitas, but it was good). Breakfast was also good, but the "included breakfast" is limited to a plate with one egg, two pieces of bread (today it was two rolls), and coffee/tea. The other plates are pretty substantial and tasty. The orange juice is tasted fresh-squeezed.||||Check-in and check-out were easy. Everyone was really friendly and service-oriented.||||Pro-Tip: The photos showing the stairs to get to the main lodge where you'll find the restaurant and reception are realistic. You gotta hump like three flights of stairs. However, if you're staying in the upper rooms like we were, there's a way to drive your car up to the parking lot by the rooms. No avoiding going up and down the hill from your room to the...
Read moreThis is a review for the restaurant, which I visited twice: once for lunch, then the following day for an early light dinner. As most eateries in Pérquin are budget, informal places, this venue - located about a kilometre before town - is a welcome alternative for something more substantial and varied than the offerings in town. Large enclosed dining area, plus two external areas: one is a cluster of tables on a terrace immediately in front of the dining room with attractive views to the street below and hills beyond; the other is a string of tables winding up a path behind the dining room. Very good meals, desserts and coffee; various products also available for take-away. Service was mixed, depending on the individual concerned. There was also significant delay getting the bill on my first visit; I then got presented with clearly...
Read moreOur first visit to Perquin was enhanced by our stay at this beautiful location! There are many steps leading from the street-level parking lot to the lobby/restaurant of the hotel, so that might be a problem for some. From the restaurant to the hotel area were many more steps (ramp being built), but one can also drive around the main building and get to the hotel by car. The veranda of the hotel affords beautiful views to the north toward Honduras. From the restaurant the sunrise is reportedly spectacular, but we missed it. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and bathrooms are very nice, including hot water in the shower. It was very quiet at night, but that could change with other clientele. I am hoping to write a separate review of the restaurant, which was also very good. The owner of the hotel is a US expat who speaks...
