This place is a complete nightmare. The place is crawling with 10x more staff, stray dogs, cats, and friends of staff than actual guests. The owner is a complete drunk and total disappointment of a hotel manager. There is dog poop all over the premises, no consistent water, the kitchen is beyond any low level standards of hygiene, tons of sandflies and mosquitos, filthy pool, etc. Our room had never been cleaned and that was evident from the hair stuck all over the ceramic tiles and urine in the toilet. The bed was covered with sand and dead bugs. We didn't have water most of our stay to bathe or flush the toilet. The towels in the room smelled putrid. The food is horrendous, overpriced, and will make you sick. The dogs go in and out of the kitchen to pull the trash all over the floor and patio - revolting. To make matters worse, we only went to go fishing and even that experience was awful. The owner was too belligerent the night before fishing to organize the details which left the staff without any clue of how to handle the situation. We had a departure time of 7am and left at almost 8:15am. However, when we made it past the break, we had to return and wait in the middle of the break (dangerous) for someone to bring us fishing hooks. The trip was supposed to include snacks and drinks, and we only had drinks on board. The boat was small, uncomfortable due to all of the coolers taking away leg space, and had way too many benches. It made it practically impossible to move around the boat to fish. The equipment is extremely old, the line is all tangled, and reeling in even the smallest mahi mahi was difficult. There were only 3 life vests on board and 6 of us on the boat. The captain and helper threw trash overboard (i.e. giant ball of tangled fishing line, plastic bag, and plastic water bottle caps) while we were fishing after we told them incessantly to stop contaminating the ocean. Lastly, the captain never brought us far out enough to blue water to find big mahi mahi. Also, we were trolling for a good 30+ minutes with tangled fishing line and hooks. It was overwhelming disappointing and we left running. If you are interested in going fishing for mahi mahi in Los Cobanos, I highly recommend avoiding this place and fishing with Don Chepe who lives locally and has helped us have an incredible fishing experience in...
Read moreOur stay at the Village Lodge was ok. ||We initially intended to stay at Casa Garrobo but when we checked it out, the pool was empty and covered with algae, so we looked for other options and found the Village Lodge. ||We stayed for 2 nights. ||The room we got was pretty basic. It had 4 single beds, AC, 2 ceiling fans, and a basic bathroom without hot water. ||The beds were pretty comfortable but the room wasn’t overly appealing so we spent most of our time out by the pool. ||The hotel’s wifi wasn’t fast but worked most of the time. The wifi was only available out at the restaurant/pool area and not in the room. ||The pool wasn’t super clean, but not too bad, and HEAVILY chlorinated. The kids loved it nonetheless. ||The restaurant has a very small menu and the food ranged from very good to very bad. They didn’t have a few of the items on the menu due to lack of ingredients. ||Breakfast wasn’t very good. The typico was super salty and the French toast was the worst meal I’ve ever eaten. The pancakes were the best of the breakfast options. ||The rest of the food was pretty good. The grilled chicken and shrimp ceviche were both excellent.||The hotel is right on the beach but the water out front is littered with rocks and all the fishermen’s boats are tied up making walking the beach nearly impossible due to all the moving ropes holding the boats to shore. ||Swimming is nice at low tide and when the wind is calm (in the morning). At high tide the waves crash very hard on shore and you can splash in them but swimming would be dangerous due to the surf and number of sharp rocks lurking below the surface. ||On the weekend the beaches are very busy with locals but during the week it’s a VERY sleepy little fishing village. During the week most of the businesses on the waterfront are closed so you almost HAVE to eat...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here in March of 2016. We loved the large rooms and the beach view from the balcony. However, we had many more negatives than positives to say about this place: ||||+Large rooms||+Beachfront location ||||-no wifi in the rooms||-swimming pool is very small ||-the beach has many areas where you can't swim ||-waitstaff are not friendly or helpful, they were often sitting down talking while people were trying to get their attention||-prices are high in comparison to all the restaurants right next to the hotel ||-rooms are HOT; the fan barely does anything||-you must pay in cash only and there is no ATM located in the small town||||Overall, we did not like the hotel. From the time we got there we had such a long wait for lunch, then my husband was served moldy bread and we had to constantly get up to look for someone to get us drinks. I actually waited over 30 minutes for a lemonade. My food was finished by the time it came.||||Waitstaff were seen sitting down chatting and smoking more than working. ||||The pool was very small for the amount of people in it. ||||We had a much better time the 2nd day when we went to eat at a nearby restaurant which provided a table and chairs on the beach. We ended up spending 1/3 of what we spent at the hotel's restaurant and had such...
