The Jaagu cottages are off the main thoroughfare in Muhu past several private properties. Some are small farms, some are retired farms, but all are idyllic and many have a perimeter marked by moss covered dry stone walls. Once you arrive you'll find yourself surrounded by growth and you'll notice that the main house is a fine example of traditional Estonian architecture, including a reed thatch roof. It's safe to categorize Jaagu in the "eco" variety of housing but while many eco-camping destinations will get you close to nature, you often need to accept rugged sleeping conditions. Jaagu gives you the best of both worlds with very comfortable cottage suites and ample bedding so that at the very least you can expect to sleep very, very well. There are drink refrigerators in the rooms such that you can ask for fresh milk, juices, or other amenities and they will be there waiting for your arrival. I've visited with my wife and children which means that the extra level of comfort was a welcome surprise: traveling with the whole group can be a challenge but the proprietor, Ms. Voites, is as hospitable as anyone can be.
During my last visit in August, I had dinner and drinks at Bottengarn and then arranged with Ms. Voites for a transfer back to Jaagu Cottages in the evening. We could have certainly gone straight to sleep but we instead enjoyed a chat and some wine with our host while my son jumped on their trampoline a few meters away.
