Maybe it’s due to our too high expectations, but we left our three day vacation with a strong feeling of disappointment.
The location and idea of a local vinyard is nice, the waitresses are kind and rooms cozy and clean, but that’s pretty much it.
Like many other guests coming here, we were very disappointed to learn that there is actually no local wine made or offered at Muhu Veinitalu. I find it extremely misleading as that is the whole branding. Instead there are foreign wines with an average price of 35-50€ per bottle
Booking the room was 115€ per night, it’s worth 75€ max as there is just a bed and one armchair and not much to see around the house.
Until 5pm they serve only pizzas for 11€/pc. The pizza itself was very nice and tasty, but not something we would like to eat three days straight.
On their website they claim to have an a la carte menu aside from the lamb course. We were anticipating to have some local fish during our time in Muhu and therefore were not interested having this 44€ lamb dinner. We had also heard from several sources that it’s actually not that good, so decided to skip it for such a high price. When we asked about the a la carte menu, we were mostly met with confusion and badly hidden disapproval, which ended with the waitress running between us and the chef to tell us what they could make for us if we reaaally want to. No actual menu, no prices. The food was mediocre and this type of ‘service’ got tiring after the first day, so we had the rest of the meals elsewhere (we would really recommend the cafe at the Koguva fish village: beautiful view, great service and very good fresh local food and local drinks with fair pricing.)
The owner was 90% time smoking and drinking in front of the house and every now and then going around talking to guests and recommending different wines, which can be cool and helpful. Only thing that we would recommend, is that he helped his staff on busier times. It was wierd to see him not caring about helping serve 10people groups (there were only 1-2 waitresses depending on the time of the day) Or when we arrived, the only waitress was busy serving tables, so we had to wait 10min to check in. This is understandable when a place is understaffed like that or there just happens to be a busy moment. She also apologized and asked us to wait a bit, we were okay with it, but the owner was just sitting outside at the same time and could have helped her. Every morning the chairs outside were covered with water. The owner was there to just tell every guest struggling with it to turn the other side of the cushion instead of dealing with it priorly. One of us sat on one of these soaked cushions and had to go change.
The breakfast was European type and had everything one could want for breakfast, but it lasts only from 9am-10am, which is a very small time window, forcing the guests to wake up atleast 8:30am, unless they want to have pizza for breakfast.
The overall experience was nothing Estonian specific: the wines, the food, the music was just random foreign mix of things. Our bill for three nights and some meals and wine was 529€, which is extremely overpriced for such...
Read moreMust visit - get outside of Tallinn for a unique experience! Muhu Veinitalu - the Muhu Wine House or Wine Farm - is a small, family-owned winery on the Estonian island of Muhu. There are very few places in the world where you can enjoy peace and quiet, privacy, beautiful real nature, and authentic tastes and flavours. Here you can. The owners manage and groom the vines in the vineyard, plough, tend, collect and make the wine, bubbly, cider and schnaps that they offer so it's truly personal and one-of-a-kind. The lodge only has 10 rooms so you get attentive personal service at a price point that in Western Europe or America's would be multiples of this. The wooden "energy pyramids" are a cool touch. Ask the master viticulteur and sommelier, owner Peke about the history of Luscher & Matiesen brand. Recommendation is that if you come to Estonia, take the couple of extra days to venture outside of Tallinn - stop in the town of Haapsalu on the way, then take the quick ferry to Muhu - going to the islandit really feels like you're stepping onto another land where time runs a different pace and your senses and feeling of aliveness and joie de vivre are heightened. highly recommended!

Read moreWe drove there on our way to Kuressaare after reading all the good reviews to have dinner. We ordered lamb as the main course, cheesecake for dessert and sweet rhubarb wine. Rhubarb wine (60 cl for 7 Eur) was really wonderful, but you can get it way cheaper (80 cl for 8 Eur) in a wonderful Hafen restaurant in Kuressaare. Lamb was dry, tough and cold with 2 cold junk-food-like sauces nearby and some cold vegetables - very small portion and small plate. It was disappointing and way too expensive (22 Eur!!!) for the quality. Finally, their cheesecake tasted as if just taken out of the freezer - cold and hard. Overall, food prices are really high and the quality is way below average in this restaurant:-( The service is also pitiful - we paid in cash and the waiter... asked if he should bring us a change (app. 10 Eur);-) Don't waist your time here - better go to restaurant Hafen in Kuressaare which has about the same prices, but really...
