Based on reviews of other travellers we had high expectations of Phonka. What a disappointment ! ||Although from the outside the house(s) look inviting, the inside is another story. Rooms are very small, 2 beds + 1 (!) wall-outlet+ 1 wooden chair. Nothing else. Beds are narrow and creaky. Sanitization has to be shared with 10 other rooms. 2 small showers (in one I couldn't stand-up straight), 3 toilets (one broken) and doors that get jammed (a woman had to be freed at night because the door of the bathroom got jammed). ||Rooms were very hot during our stay (directly under the roof). Only a small skylight that could be opened to a certain degree. No airconditioning. ||Beneath a small kitchen that had to be shared and a large, cheerless living space. ||Although in a lot of reviews people spoke about the possibility to have breakfast or even diner, it appeared the cook was on vacation (during high-season !), so we were not that lucky. Only place nearby where we could eat was closed. ||In short: even 50 euro a night for this accommodation is overpriced. We understand that this business model is for the owner attractive, but as a guest we felt ripped....
Read moreI went to Raivo’s & Marika’s farm to enjoy the Estonian nature of Soomaa and ended up joining the full-moon ice-swimming club. The farm is well equipped with all you need to have a pleasant stay. It’s suitable for stays with family, friends, colleagues or for solo travelers. I got the best experience I had in Estonia so far. You can’t miss a sauna evening with a swim in a very well maintained pond. Also, Marika’s morning pancakes and Raivo’s special omelet are a must try.
Raivo was the best local guide I could ask for. He has great knowdeldge of what Soomaa has to offer and arranged my kayaking adventure. Also, he helped me out with all the preps of my next adventure in Saarema and gave me a tour in Pärnu. I went with nothing and left with a luggage full of good memories and two amazing friends I’ll for...
Read moreWe stayed for 2 nights at this wonderful farm stay in May. We accidentally came upon it so had no expectations. Look out for the sign, it's not that obvious. The absolute highlight is the sauna and the host. He has a ritual with the sauna that you follow, you don't think you will when he first tells you. It involves jumping into a freezing pond after the hot sauna and doing it again and again with a beer after each plunge. It was such fun. It is well worth the extra cost.||The accomodation is simple but comfortable with the use of a kitchen. His breakfast in the morning is delicious. It has taken us this long to write the review but we have never forgotten...
