A casino hotel wouldn't have been my usual choice, but we were staying here as part of an organised tour of South Africa and the accommodation was altered at the last minute.|That said, our room (127), one of the new suites, was excellent. Fabulously spacious and clean, it had a large living area, balcony and a huge bathroom with rain shower, twin sinks and a separate bath.|The restaurant experience, however, could have been much better. We struggled to pay for drinks after our buffet dinner. There seemed to be lots of serving staff but they were slow and there was a lack of coordination. |If I had been staying in one of the regular rooms, rather than a new suite, I would have only given the hotel 3 stars.|A special mention goes to Michael who assisted with our luggage on arrival and departure. He was very pleasant and courteous and his appearance in eswatini traditional attire, as we were leaving, was appreciated. Thank...
Read moreI have been here twice. The first time our sheets and blankets had stains and our room was completely unstocked. There weren't even towels in our room to shower. We went to the pool and there was no lighting at night. We could not see anything and it was safety hazard. When we asked staff to turn on the lights no one knew how to. The second time I came here. I asked the Hostess at the front desk for a pen and paper and a stapler. She flat out said no and did not even offer to look for the supplies. Happy Valley needs to step it up. At any other hotel or even small local hostel staff is much better at catering to the needs of their guests. I will be spending my time at the Royal Swazi Hotel 5 minutes down the road. They have wonderful customer service and the estate...

The rooms are nice and clean, and everything works. Services and amenities are what you'd expected from a mid-to-high level tourist class hotel in Southern Africa.
Buffet and a-la carte options at the main restaurant are all nice and reasonably priced. Staff are all friendly and helpful.
If you want to gamble, there's a casino. With the attached conference facility, Happy Valley Hotel & Casino becomes an ideal location for a business retreat.
The location is good in that it's directly across from a nice shopping mall, near a number of important government offices, and generally good access to several outdoor and cultural things (sightseeing).
In terms of international access, however, it's not great: 2-3 hours to reach from the airport, depending on traffic and road work.
No health club/gym in...
