To be fair, I lived at this hotel for 1 month. Some of the other reviewers unfortunately had a bad experience. I am unclear what training the wait staff had at this hotel but it definitely improved while I was there.||||Location:||This hotel is a fair value when taking into account the amenities and the distance from other tourists attractions. The rotary by the hotel was being paved and made for some bad traffic jams during rush hour but should improve with time. Most Taxi drivers knew where the hotel was located because it is next to a Ethiopian movie theater and has its own microbrewery. One way trips via taxis to Meskel Square (175-200 Birr) and the beginning of Bole Road (250-350 Birr) make moving around the city expensive UNLESS you know how to take the shared Taxis (minibuses) then trips should be less then 10-20 Birr.||||Food:||Beer pretty good for a microbrewery, as I was told the other microbrewery is in Bole this place caters mainly to the local crowd (I rarely saw foreigners aka Faranjis). Pizzas and burgers below average. Best time to eat would be their Lunch buffet with Ethiopian food.||||Internet:||Constantly a problem, not unique to this hotel as I tried to compare to other hotels in Addis and other cities within the country. The best connection would be the wireless access in the lobby. I noticed the entire network slows between 1600 to 2000 daily, probably corresponding to the peak time Ethiopians use the internet. Power outages could sometimes be frustrating but at least this hotel had its own generator to keep the lights on.||||Rooms:||Beds comfortable and large. Showers with good hot water. TV, I can not say much because I do not watch TV in hotels but the channels were limited.||||Gym:||Better than most places I have been to. Pool in excellent condition and busiest on the weekends or hot days. A large screened building to the right of the pool has at least 8 treadmills and 3 stationary bikes. Below the pool is a decent weight room with machines and dumb-/bar-bells where I was able to do most exercises (I do Olympic lifting...
Read moreHi everyone. The Embilta is a basic hotel at a fair price used extensively to house visitors to St Paul's Millennium Medical College which is nearby. The rooms are basic but clean and there is normally hot water for a shower which is great after a hard day at the hospital. The reception staff especially Mesi are helpful, you can change dollars here into Birr rather than using the bank down the road. The doorman is helpful Shimeles and was always happy to carry my bags and didn't expect a tip everything. The breakfast is adequate, the buffet lunch fine and the evening dinner ok. The best food in my opinion is the br food. The bar is lively and serves its own beer from the microbrewery. The gym is fine for my level of fitness. I haven't been in the pool. This is fine for a developing country if you want top quality then the Hilton is available but it is along way in the morning from the hospital and I don't need the hospital to spend on top quality hotels when I am there as a volunteer. Internet is slow. Remember this country is developing rapidly but from a difficult place after the civil war. Don't expect too much from the infrastructure. Enjoy the wonderful people and get around and see the...
Read moreLiving in this area for many years, I'm sorry to say the quality of this hotel has deteriorated. |A recent restaurant encounter. Ordered veggie pizza. Half way through we noticed a hair. We called the manager who seemed very embarrassed. She said that they could bring another pizza and even have a free dinner. Neither of us took her up on the offer. A few days later I came in and ordered a pizza and suggested she make good on the free pizza offer. She seemed puzzled. Why, because she said since we did not pay for the fizzie water we had with the previous pizza we should consider ourselves even. What logic. |I reminded her about her promise and then suggested that the cost of provided a free replacement pizza would be far less than the potential loss from a a bad review. |Amazingly, she was unmoved. Getting refunds in this country is simply an impossibility. Service industry is in it infancy and old mindsets and bureaucracy prevails. Also, my visiting friend from the USA stated the there was no hot water one morning and it appeared that sheets were dirty. For me, that's worse that an entire...
