Hotel Lammergeyer — Hotel in Amhara Region

We left this hotel shortly after checking in, after hearing a rat (definitely louder and heavier than a mouse) squeaking and running around in the ceiling above the bed.

We immediately informed the staff, who acknowledged the problem but said there was no need to change rooms as it would be quiet after 8pm, and besides, the hotel was fully booked. On refusing to stay in the room, the staff said there were actually other rooms available but they would need to check with the manager whether we could move as we had made use of the room (showered/sat on the bed).

By this point, we were so exasperated by the situation we decided to move to another hotel. The manager appeared and shouted at us, saying we had to pay for the room. We refused and left. At no time did staff apologise for there being a rat at their property, let alone acknowledge that this is a serious problem which puts guests' health at risk (in the hotel itself, or customers in the lively garden area which serves as a restaurant/bar).

We stayed at various types of accommodation during our Ethiopia holiday (including city centre hotels, rural lodges) and did not experience any such problems elsewhere.

The reception person was a special kind of con artist... He told me that he upgraded my room by giving me a king size bed which was true... but in the morning I realised he gave me the room by the courtyard, near the generator and the storage room where the cleaning ladies gather at around 6/7 am in the morning... Also my friend got stuck outside late at night as the key to her room broke in the keyhole! The receptionnist was annoyed about being woken up and the morning after told them.it was not their fault and accused her of doing it on purpose!!! Rooms are ok. 30$ is a little bit overpriced. Guy at reception is not nice. Told me at the phone that there is no shuttle bus to the airport, when we arrived, first things i saw was the shuttle bus. Wanted to give us a room near the noisy street. Told us, there are no other rooms left. After explaining him, that its too loud to sleep, he finally “found“ a quiet room.
