Beautiful Rustic Resort on the Surface, but they have a long way to go. We had a group of 11 of us come, 3 rooms for 1 night and 3 rooms for 2 nights. Check-in was smooth, simple and easy. Fresh pineapple or watermelon juice on arrival was refreshing. The first challenge was going to our room. There were 3 flights of stairs to get there. People were very friendly in this hotel and carried our bags for us. It looks like there is a place for an elevator, but nothing being installed yet. We then took a walk down toward the lake. After going down several flights of stairs, it was blocked off so we couldn't go the rest of the way. It looked like a nice grassy area down by the lake. Bishoftu lake is an ancient Volcano. Quite beautiful but I didn't see any boats on it. After walking back up the stairs, we noticed that there were no handrails in the hotel to help going up or down the stairs. I like to climb the stairs, but knee problems make it challenging to go downstairs. We enjoyed a nice dinner together with our group. No complaints with the restaurant or food. We all got a variety of dishes such as, Chicken dishes, Chicken Shawarma, vegetable or chicken soup, green salad, avocado salad, etc. They were all excellent and we enjoyed our evening.
The Room: It was beautiful, air-conditioned, spacious and mostly comfortable. The double curtains kept the room quite dark in the morning, but it was difficult to open and close them. Beautiful large balcony, but there were no chairs to sit on out there. Only one chair in the room so we sat on the bed most of the time. The mattress was very firm. Some in our group loved the hard bed. I prefer a medium soft mattress, so sleep was a little difficult for me. My wife wanted a hair dryer for the morning. There was no room phone so she used her cell to call the hotel. They took a second reminder before bringing it a couple of hours later that evening. Bathroom was pretty good, but a little cramped around the toilet area. Not much counter space. Hot water the first morning, no hot water the second morning.
Breakfast: Beautiful area for breakfast which we enjoyed sitting outside both mornings. It was covered. The food selection was pretty good with bottled water, watermelon, pineapple and papaya juice. They had some breads, vegetables and several Ethiopian style selections. The omelet ordering station was good and the fruit selection was typical, although they never had bananas. No cereals or grains.
Other: The grounds and resort were beautiful. America style music was playing in the lobby. There were several wedding photos taking place throughout our stay. One beautiful rock stairway going to the restaurant was a little bit of a bottleneck, as people were trying to go up and down but only one person would fit at a time, and one area you had to duck down, or you might hit your head. And no handrails. Outside, there was a beautiful rock water feature that was not operating while we were there. Their web site said there was a pool, but it is still being built. No fitness room. The price was reasonable for this partially finished resort. Hope they finish it soon and we...
